The Church is also anxious to counter the view that its teaching is incompatible with science. It wants to distance itself from fundamentalist Christians, who believe in the Biblical account of the creation of the world in seven days.

There ya go. Politics.

The church is a business that needs to survive, and they're rather hoping that people won't start frowning over the fact that they have seats on the House of Lords, so in the spirit of being "current" they try to reassure us that they're not just a bunch of raving hobos who've been given a shower, some nice clothes, and more political power then unelected religious officials should ever have in a modern society.

Most [political] problems are the product of complex conditions. They require trade-offs and policy expertise. They are not solvable through the mere assertion of sterling character.

It's a joke. Laugh.

Meh.  Frankly I'm a bit tired of all the anti-religious and anti-church sentiment on the Internet.  But I'm equally irritated at the amount of transparently religious or moral pandering in the legislature.
