BECU. www.becu.org

They give you 6% interest on your first $500 in savings (checking too on certain kinds of accounts). Personally, my savings account has never been over $500, so that has been pretty awesome for me. Also they are expanding, so there will be more branches soon - as of now there are not a lot of them, but there are enough that you can get around okay, plus they have deposit/withdrawal ATMs in most Safeway stores.

Also, yay for moving! Maybe I'll visit when I am in town.

I've also been really happy with First Tech, but I'm not sure how their eligibility requirements work.

And they're not Seattle-local, but if you're closely enough related to someone who is or was in the military, USAA is made of awesome.

Could you tell me more about USAA, specifically why it'd be good enough to consider despite non-locality? My father's a vet, so that might be an option.

USAA is fantastic. I love them. Amazing, amazing customer service, ability to deposit cheques by phone or USAA-paid mail drop envelopes, very well-done website, earning interest on your chequing AND savings accounts, get refunded percentage points when you pay for things (incl bills) with your debit card, very convenient and free online bill pay, they refund any ATM charges you incur using other companies' ATMs (up to $20 in fees a month). They also do insurance (auto, home, renter's, life, etc) and retirement accounts... they offer discounts on all kinds of random stuff...

I've been a customer for nearly 10 years, and have never felt the need to switch away.

Huh. USAA does sound pretty good.

From looking on wiki, it seems like PenFed is similar. Does anyone know enough to have opinions about them?

Agreed on the USAA-lovefest here. We use USAA for banking, and their insurance rates are unbeatable, as far as we've found. Customer service and claims have also been excellent. (SUV, meet garage wall!) We also have a local credit union (Pacific Service) as a secondary banking institution, as a just-in-case measure - they're also excellent, but very small.
