The Rules
« on: April 17, 2006, 05:42:28 PM »
I'll keep this simple.

By using this site, you assert that:
  • You are 18 years of age or older
  • You agree to follow the rules or suffer the consequences

Rules are rules. Guidelines are things you should very much keep in mind.

The Rules

      [1] No personal attacks.
[2] No harassing or threatening other users, the forum, or the servers on which it runs. Especially no sexual harassment. If they don't think it's harmless flirting, then it is not.
[3] No posting personal information or details about other posters without their permission.
[4] No trolling. This includes flaming and flame-baiting. Feed trolls at your own risk. Don't whine to us if one takes your arm off.
[5] No embedding adult images/movies in your posts, except where otherwise marked by the admins. (Putting it behind a link and clearly marking it NSFW is ok)
[6] Do not embed any flash in your posts that does not have an explicit start/stop button
[7] No advertising products or services without Kyle's personal approval.

Guidelines

    * If you do not use proper grammar, punctuation, and the spell check function at all times, you will be mocked and harassed for this by the forum in general.
    * If English is your second language, you may be partially exempted from this.
    * Mockery of poor spelling and grammar usage is encouraged.
    * Try to keep threads at least marginally on-topic. If it goes too far, the mods and admin reserve the right to fork it off into a new thread.
    * Start threads in the appropriate boards. Threads that don't fit can and will be moved at mod/admin discretion.
    * Just because behaving like a jackass is not forbidden by the rules does not mean we won't do something about it if it becomes a problem.

Sanctions for broken rules:

   1) Warning
   2) Second warning
   3) 24 hour mute
   4) 72 hour mute
   5) 1 week mute
   6) Temp-ban - Length to be determined based on severity of incident
   7) Perma-ban

Any or all of these steps may be skipped if what the person does is bad enough.

In addition, the Debate forum has its own subset of rules. Violating the Debate forum rules may result in Debate forum specific sanctions.

The rules are subject to change, and it's your job to keep abreast of the changes. We will however post updates to the rules as news items. Punishments for violations are at the admins' and moderators' sole discretion.

If you believe the rules have been violated:

Please report it to the mods. We are not psychic and may not know there is a problem unless you tell us.

If you think that a moderator has acted unfairly, contact an admin. If your issue is with the actions of an admin, contact a different admin.

General Information

This forum allows you to link your profile to an external avatar image. If you choose to use this option (and we encourage you to do so!) please make it 100x100 pixels in size. Animation is, by default, OK, but the admins reserve the right to change your avatar at their own discretion.

This forum allows you to create a signature, and attach it to your posts. If you choose to use this option (and we encourage you to do so!), your signature should not have more than five lines of text. If you like, you may include one non-animated image in your signature, no larger than 40 pixels high by 100 pixels wide. Smilies do not count toward this limit; you may have smiley of your choice, out of the ones zCh provides, in your signature.

When posting a link that has a long URL, please encapsulate it behind anchor text, like this.

The mods and admins reserve the right to edit your posts and profile information at their own discretion.

Some examples of reasons why we might edit a post or profile:

*Personal information posted without permission
*NSFW content not hidden behind a link
*Flash with no stop button
*Links to spammed product
*Splitting threads
*Illegal post content

If you believe your post was edited unnecessarily, PM the admins with your grievance.

The mods and the admins have lives outside the forums, and based on all available data, are not your mother. While moderators and admin will do their best to accommodate you, be aware that we may view events differently than you do.

People who publicly and dramatically declare that they are leaving the forum FOREVAR and then fail to actually leave may discover that their displayed user name has been changed to Drama Llama.

Kyle J. Cardoza claims full copyright on all original stylistic element of this site, such as the logo. The contents of your posts, including images (provided you created them) belong to you.

So, who are the mods? And will there be a user list like there is *looks again*, uh, was, on xenofile?

The user list is on Kyle's jumbo-sized list of things to do.  As for mods, they're still being fully worked out but for now, um, hi.

More will be coming with time.

Damn, you got things put together fast, Kyle.  Does this mean we should no longer do the Xf refugee thing?

I'm too fugging old for such confusion, you know.  I need consistent routines at my age.

Can we have the rule about proper capitolization, half-decent grammar, and sentence structure back?  I hate to whine, but at the same time I hate trying to read a post with no capitol letters or punctuation, too.

...Ironic or very, very tired.  Whichever you perfer.  I did say half-decent grammar, not immaculate.

[ETA:  I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry... I'm tired, but not *that* tired.  I re-read that post, and the English student in me took a shot to the kidneys. Fixed now...for the most part.]

Wait, Sparky, you want to exclude people from countries which don't have a capitol or who don't live in a capitol? Isn't that unncessarily elitist? :-P

I'm assuming we're free to ignore the agreement we signed to get forum access?  I don't know what TMI would be like if we weren't allowed to post anything "sexually explicit"...

So, since we're all newbies here, do we fight to the death for supremecy and cool points? Or do we simply gan status by not acting like total jerk offs? I'm for either, really.

I would like to throw my support behind the "proper English"/grammar Nazi ideal. That was one of the things I verily enjoyed about xF, that I could actually understand everything that was written without having to translate.

I would also prefer to keep the signature line limit that xF imposed, no more than 3 lines. Also, no images in sigs. I think it makes the boards look a lot cleaner that way.

Kyle and I are both pretty adamant about no-pics-in-sigs.  I know this mainly because he mentioned it as I was wandering around on Gaia the other day.  Rest assured, that'll make its way in (if it hasn't yet...err, sweetheart?).
