Started 3 weeks ago with the diet and the gym.  Goal was to lose 14-19 lbs.  I am down 6 pounds so far. Maintaining 1200-1500 calories per day + random exercise when scheduling permits.  8-13 pounds to go in 7 weeks.

Good luck to everyone in their journey.

Been kind of a rough week.  Averaging 211.5 over the last week.  Have no idea what will happen when Alpha shows up and I have even less attention to spare for this than I do right now.

On Thursday, I stopped just nibbling everything in sight all day and started having three actual meals. I'm having one piece of fruit, two tablespoons of muesli and two tablespoons of low fat yoghurt for breakfast, one or two (depending on hunger) salad sandwiches, usually with meat or cheese for flavour, but mostly lettuce, cucumber, carrot, and whatever else my garden has handy for lunch, and whatever meal I'm making for the family for dinner. I'm not eating anything else. In addition to this, I'm drinking only water, and I am also having a glass of water each time I feel like snacking.

Is there a logical and non depressing reason for my weight to have increased in a week of this?

Cos Saturday morning I was 86k (189.2lb) and this morning (Wednesday) I am 89k (195.8lb).

And yes, I know one should not weigh oneself more than weekly, but I did.

AFAIK If you've been eating irregularly for a long time your metabolism will be all out of whack and may take some time to realign to a proper eating schedule...

It is possible that going from a grazing type eating style to the 3 meals a day, your body thinks that you are not able to eat as much and is going into "starvation mode". It causes the liver to dump sugar during times when it thinks that you arent going to be eating any time soon. Give it another week or so for your body to figure out that you still are eating. This was a big problem for me because it caused my sugar to bounce, and I couldnt figure out how to adjust my insulin to match it.

Or, you could split your meals into snacks and eat them closer together. Like, piece of fruit for breakfast, then yogurt 2 hours later, then a sandwich 2-3 hours later, then maybe your 2nd sandwich (or veggies, or some cheese) 2 hours later, then your family meal at the end of the day. That way you dont have the ups and downs.

S_C, are you drinking more than you used to? I'll be the first to admit that I have no idea about dieting, but I do know that a lot of short term weight variation is actually the water level going up or down.

Drinking every time I want a drink, and every time I want to eat at an inappropriate time or an inappropriate thing. So yeah, heaps more.

Down 11 pounds so far.  3 to go for goal weight #1.  8 to go for goal weight #2.  13 to go for ultimate goal weight.
Three and a half weeks left to hit goal weight #1.  I think I will make that easily.

I'm jumping back on board with this as of this coming sunday - wanted to wait until after my birthday to start South Beach and exercise with my gentleman, both of us are looking to drop between 20 and 30lbs each. So, I am posting this here for whatever modicum of accountability that adds. :)

I guess I'll jump in.

Doing something I never recommend to others, I tried something new with disastrous results. With an injured elbow joint, I've been sidelined from working out for around 4 months. I wanted to give it proper time to heal so I can push near where I need to, even if it means a brief dip in strength.

I'm currently at 198, the highest I have ever been in my adult life without working out continuously. I'm going to the gym for myself, slowly getting into the work out.
