I'm not into the indie scene, nor do I really care to be.

But I like QC.  No, I don't get 99% of the band references, but that's the good thing about QC and other comics such as CAD--you don't HAVE to be a gamer or indiegeek to find the comic enjoyable.  The references simply give those "in the know" an extra chuckle--they don't comprise the entire comic and leave all us outsiders going  ??? .  So like it or not--that's your choice.

But if anyone has a problem with Something Positive, I'll have to hunt you down and eat your young.   ;D

Edit:  Nevermind.  I don't really enjoy this after all.

For the record, I didn't think they were very funny, and I would consider myself to be fairly knowledgeable concerning the indie rock scene.  I didn't think his references weren't very well thought out, but at least he had the courage to throw them out there.

Actually, as previously stated, they may well confuse those of us in the know more than anyone else.

Agreed.

Sometimes I wake up with my nose in the grass.

So what, do you want a fucking cookie?

I hope you're being sarcastic about how unlike us, you get the band references, because ... well, yeah, they're not exactly obscure references these days, what with the hipster/indie music scene and all. And at this point, the references are getting more random and nonsensical than anything else.

I long for the day when knowing an obscure and, generally, overrated band is not the status symbol it currently serves as.

Sorry, I just read this tonight.

Don't be snarky at me, I was being sarcastic. I mean, I do like the comic, but about the band stuff I was just being silly.

I used to read it. Enjoyed it, I did, even though I didn't get any of the band references.  Then, for reasons that I can't even begin to recall, I stopped following it (around the time that Marten and Faye moved).

Now I come here and find out that... that... Faye is no longer in the comic?  Marten and her didn't hook up?  I'm being honest when I say that I'm befuddled and vaguely annoyed at this turn of events.  Makes me want to never read it again and/or start back up reading it so I can judge for myself.

But, yeah, stopped reading it probably because I stopped going online for a while there.  Also, I haven't read Megatokyo in sooooo long, just 'cause I got a bit tired of the awkward situations and the plot that moved more slowly than dry cement.  Really dug the art, though...

Faye is still in the comic, she just took a vacation and went home.  She and MArten didn't hook up, though.

I think it was a good idea for Faye and Marten NOT to hook up, though I am a bit wary as to where the relationship with Dora comes in.  I mean, I LOVE UST, but it has to be resolved one way or another eventualy.  You cant have never ending UST in a story, but you also dont want to resolve it too soon, or risk the 'spark' that it provided from going away.  Like in the show Dark Angel, once the main couple got together, for me anyway, the show just wasnt as good.

QC's story, despite everything else, is mainly built on Faye and Marten's relationship.  I think them admitting they have feeling for eachother, yet NOT getting together is the right thing for the longevity of the strip.  Marten going on to have relationships with other characters will add a new demension to the story AND possibly bring more character development with Faye realising she's not okay with it, Dora constantly doubting weahter she is Marten's second best choice, and/or Marten still pining over Faye while trying to make his relationship with Dora work.  Add Hannelore, Marten's (self admittedmy) insane stalker, and the always random and wonderful Pintsize to the equation, and I think QC will only get better, although a tad more soap opera-ish, but that's better than NOTHING EVER HAPPENING EVER!

I agree with your entire post, and especially this part.  Season Two sucked major ass.   Tongue

I'll still end up buying the damn DVD set, though--I hate having unfinished collections.

Dora, Marten, and Faye all have the EXACT SAME SENSE OF HUMOR and make interchangeable witty remarks..

I'm actually glad I don't get half the references. If I did, I might form opposing opinions that would detract from me enjoying the jokes. I do enjoy QC, and while it does get kinda out there, it's a good comic.

QC got heavy for a while there, but when he sticks to stuff like the recent strips with the increased popularity of the shop? I enjoy it a lot.  I'm with you, S2S, if I got the references, it might lower my enjoyment of it....but since I don't, I just gloss over them Smile

Nocturnal burrower

It took me a little while, but I finally realized why I can't read the comic.

All the people, especially the women, stand in this strange pose with arms dangling back and hips outthrust. I suppose they're all meant to be laid-back or relaxed, or possibly showing fashionably cool bad posture. Either way, it's like all the girls are air-humping, or maybe rather drunk and losing their sense of balance and stance. It doesn't look cool, it just looks uncomfortable and badly balanced.

And, well, just as the same sense of sarcastic humor is shared by characters, the same body is shared as well. I mean... you could swap heads around on the various bodies (skin tones as well I guess), and no one would notice. Same personalities, same bodies, same jokes and quips... It's as if the author only has two or three characters in reality, but feels that more bodies in the panel make for a better comic. Lack of creativity.

Boobbah is watching you

I kept expecting them to link up arms and start skipping through the panels. Sorta Wizard of Oz meets "Indie Music Scene" Hype.

Despite the fact I like QC, I think today's (tomorrow's?) guest strip is the first time it's made me laugh in a while.

"I'll Ruin Your Day, Son."

I actually like this comic, but I hate this overused stock character.

The over violent female. In no way is this even cute any more. It's EVERYWHERE. I get to hurt you, and it's ok because I'm female and I'm sexy and grrr! With my vagina, I'm allowed to act in a manner that would get the police's attention if I were a guy! I'm so emotionally stunted and so quick with harming something that offends me even in the slightest that I don't even have time to give it thought that perhaps I'm overreacting! And even if I am, it's fun! Yay!

Yes, I realize the folly of saying such a comment here. But so many people are interested in Non PC and being able to say whatever what you like without wanting to accept any responsibility or reprecussions, I figured I'd give it a whirl. Did feel pretty good.  ;D

*snerk*

For me it's ok, because you don't actually ever see any of them BEING violent, just talking shit.  And that's just funny.

Although Marten needs to learn to keep his wemmins in check </kidding like crazy>

Not here anymore.

I liked Hannelore a lot more before she got the haircut.  Best Hannelore comic ever was either a) the introduction when she met Marten in the men's room, or b) when she was cleaning her apartment in hardhat and filtration mask.

As for Faye, she might be violent, but it's all threats.  She never actually hits anyone or anything.  Maybe she goes to the gym and takes it out on the boxing bag.

Lately the comic has been kind of eh.  But I'm sure it'll get better again.  QC is one of the few comics that I read on a daily basis, all the others I just check periodically(don't get me started on Megatokyo).

Actually, there's a lot of shots of Marten going down and a few of Dora reeling from hits, I believe.
