I actually stopped briefly to work on that problem, but the best I could come up with was that R is infinitely close to 0.

Only if the resistance along all those infinite paths doesn't get too large with each additional ring of resistors. Which I have a hunch it does.

*googles*

Indeed. According to this paper, the resistance between those two nodes would be 4/pi - 1/2.

Does XKCD artist count as nerdsniping everyone who dropped the thread discussion to work out the infinite resistors problem?

Not your typical chinaman.

Actually I think it only counts as nerd sniping if you stop a nerd in its tracks in a position that would compromise their bodily safety.  Its like sniping with a gun, you pick them off from a direction they didn't expect, and they never know what him them.

Oh my god. OH MY GOD. SO VERY MUCH WIN.

What makes this even better, is that a bunch of assholes on the xkcd forum- a lot of the very same ones that were gloating over the first Journal comic, actually- are being all bitchy and whiny, because their champion has been defeated. There's lots of sexism and "Yeah? WELL HE'LL GET HER BACK! HE SECRETLY HAD HEADLICE" and shit.

These are the type of assholes who force a contrived chuckle every time someone dies in a movie, and their reactions to this are hilarious.

Hah, to be more honest, I liked it better when he'd been owned.
