Deviant Art 2
« on: April 19, 2006, 06:30:47 AM »
The old art gallery and showcasing space is open.

We've proven for the last few years across two other boards, that no, we're not artistically cultureless heathens, why should we stop now?
Paint, sculpture, digital imaging, photography, links to films, anything is good, anything goes.
If you want a crit or in-depth feedback of your work, say it good and loud, and we shall hear and comply.

Me, I can do 2D charcoal

...and digital 3D

And PS, if you're gonna post something and its huge, be a pal and size it down for the lot of us first.  No one likes to walk through multiple rooms just to see one painting, so it keep it as nice and viewable as you can.

Show us what you got.

The majority of my stuff is fiction, and to post it here would nean... well, basically a 10-page long thread to myself.  So, just go read it here:

I love that picture so much. When you posted it on LJ I kept going and looking at it.

So cool.  ^_^

Just so's you guys know, I'm always looking for art to put in my RPG. Some of you seem really good, so if you're interested, PM me.

Some of the really talented ones here (I'm looking at you, PuPPy), don't actually believe in their own talent, so if you want some of them (I'm looking at PuPPy again, here), you might have to approach him.

...them. ;)

Some other people (*Stares at Pix*) also don't believe in their talent (*Still staring*) and may need to be approached as well.

You might want to explain it a bit, dear. You can't read the writing there. Maybe post what it says? ^_^

Oh.  I forgot to say... does my poster make sense to people?  I'm presenting it on Saturday at a thing and need to anticipate questions.  Does it make any intuitive sense?  Can you work out what it's meant to be without external explanation?

Honestly...

I'm trying to figure out what you mean and I'm just not grasping it.  I'm guessing the right shows a complete wasteless crystal sheet whereas the left shows that the product crystallizes in a wasteful manner?

But, the chain really really confuses me and then the bolt just sort of made me try to forget it was there as I really didn't get it.
A solution to your problems...

The one on the left is a traditional synthesis... so you take the chemical (lego) and first you do one reaction (drill a hole) to modify it and then you do another (add a hook), then another (add the chain), and another (add the nut) and the final one (add the bolt).  The bolt and chain act as an anchor to keep the chemical in place so it doesn't migrate within the film.  The right is using intermolecular forces to co-crystallize the chemical with another.

My boss didn't get that bit either at first and he's one of the ones to come up with this method.  Once I'd explained it he said he got it... but he said I should probably stay around the poster to explain it.

Makes sense to me...

Definitely needs to be explained. I got it once you explained it to me, but it needs a little more clarification than it has just on its own.

I sort of figured it out on the 3rd reading, but you should definitely stick around to explain it.  Maybe if you used an anchor or something?

That's also what the boss suggested.  I've kind of hot glued it in place and also wanted to keep with the industrial theme.

I was going to have a beaker of water with a stir bar in it spinning the water and the industrial Legos in one and the co-crystal ones in the other.  Maybe I should look into that still?

That's a really good idea to illustrate the two methods of holding the legos in place.
