A lonely chord, without a song.

I have training in clarinet, piano, french horn, violin, mellophone, and oboe.

I marched the clarinet, then the mello. I liked the mello a hell of a lot more, and actually got a solo my senior year with it.

I actually own the mellophone and an oboe, so obviously I enjoyed those the most. The mello's a piece of crap brass composite I bought off my band director for 50 bucks, but the oboe is actually an intermediate wooden Linton, which is above average quality. I haven't touched Rupert (the oboe) in about a year. I probably need to get him tuned/ repadded again. He's a picky little beast, but I do love him. He's probably feeling rather neglected, but in an apartment situation, I feel bad honking on him, since the neighbors have to suffer.

The spellcheck thinks mellophone isn't a word, and that makes me sad. : (

The vast majority of my instrumental training is in vocal technique.  However, I don't really sing much anymore.  I also studied piano for 6 years and cello for 2.  But I rarely play those now either.  I also have a trumpet and a tenor sax that get played only occasionally and I don't have any formal training on either.

I primarily play guitar, percussion, and various electronics.  I have not deliberately tuned a guitar to anything standard since 7th grade (nor would I know what notes lie where on the fretboard if I did tune it) and I can't play a standard drum beat to save my life, but I consider myself quite proficient on these instruments in my own untraditional way.  Most recently, I've gotten really into the sounds my laptop makes and have been creating music primarily from amplifying these small sounds with a pickup designed for recording telephone conversations.

Some of my music is recently up on a myspace page.  http://www.myspace.com/tracebeing

(edit way after the fact right now because I realized I screwed up the url coding)

JC Chasez in a Dr Huxtable sweater

(Didn't we have a similar thread some time ago? Oh well, I'm too lazy to search now.)

I doodle around a bit on the acoustic guitar. It's enough to amuse my wife and daughter, which isn't saying a whole damn lot, really. I sang in a choir as a child, but my singing skills have severely rusted since then. Recently, I got interested in the blues harp, so in my Copious Free Time I'm now trying to teach myself to play that one with the help of some YouTube videos and an instruction book.

Not your monkey.

I sing - I've had some actual training there, and I've been in lots of choirs and acappella groups and musicals over the course of my school career, and, obviously, I can rock out.

I play guitar, acoustic or electric.  I'm a competant rhythm guitarist, but no lead guitarist unless you want serious noise.  At some point I made the transition from "hack" to "hack who sounds good."  Influences: Gill (Gang of Four), Greenwood (Radiohead), Mizutani (Les Rallizes Denudes), and lots of soul guitarists.

I can fake it on bass.

I make shiny things, you need them.

My only real skill musically speaking is the ability to whistle. I sing for myself and no one else.

While overseas I had nothing to do and the Chaplain was giving guitar lessons... so now I play acoustic guitar.  Not well, I still have a lot to learn and I need a lot of practice.

I played the violin for 6 years and I've sang for two years. I can still play violin even though I rarely touch it nowadays. With a little practice I'm sure I can pick up my singing as well. I miss it though :-x

I sing, and write lyrics.  Bass/Baritone voice range.  I can almost drop to Barry White with a little effort and warm-up.  However, I can't sing acapella, and I have a problem singing alone, but if you give me someone to follow, I can match a key no problem.

'Lock's minx

The only instrument I play well is English Handbells. It's one of the few truly choral instruments. Ic an fake it on the piano. I also sing a little when I think no-one is listening or I'm drunk.

I seem to have a tendency to date drummers. Somebody psychoanalyze that.

Where are the D&D minis? I have to see where I am!

*ressurects*

I forgot to mention that I love to sing and am not bad at it. Smile  The first time Gabe and I really connected was when I sang to him.  I must have a level in bard or something because he was fascinated.  It was a saving grace, actually, because when I figured out that he liked for me to sing when I was at the end of my rope and about to hang myself with it.  We got along a lot better after I started singing him Christmas carols and other tunes, mostly Disney stuff I've memorized.

I wish I still had my tin whistle; I let my sister borrow it and she lost it. >.<

I play the Violin Mostly but I can play the Viola and Cello as well.  I am going to be getting a Bass Guitar though and learning that.  Probably where I excel (I'm out of practice on the violin though getting better) is in my voice.  I let my fiddle playing atrophy and focused on my vocal talents for about 5 years.  Not that I didn't play (I did when I could) but I didn't practice as much as I should.

Also, I will be working on learning the Bagpipes.

Of those I've played...Violin (23 years), Viola (18), Cello (About 10), Piano (very little), and vocal (About 13 years).  Sometime I will post a pic of my collection of instruments.

As for present, I have a Morelli Electric Violin and an antique circa 1890 violin (Accoustic).  Next purchase is a Cello and a Bass Guitar.

Well... I play guitar, bass, and have playes clarinet and trumpet in the past. I can keep a beat on drums. And I sing. Mind you, I'm not great at any of it, but passable I suppose.

I was, in my teen years in a few Mariachi groups professionally where I played guitar and vihuela (tenor guitar), guitarron (kinda' the twelve-string guitar of basses... but not), and of course sang solo and in chorus.

It was good times. The money was good... the booze was free...
