Actually, I'm pretty sure that posting like an Internet Tough Guy is a lot more 4chan than any amount of casual snark. That's all I wanted to point out, really. You can go back to talking about how, in response to a relatively harmless if dumb and tasteless practical joke, you'll totally make their grandmother think they hate them.

Sadly enough there were enough people that thought this was amusing in both college and in my former work environments that this -was- the only way to get them to stop. Regardless of whether you believe that someone is insane, crazy, or Internet Tough Guy to do something like this as a repercussion for what was in a couple of cases truly egregious behavior (which you might think is a harmless prank, but in two instances nearly got people at work terminated because someone sent emails and chats in their name to their workgroup that were wildly inappropriate), it happened.

I also happened to be someone in a group of friends who played "Finger in Your Butt" - which was a totally harmless prank where friends who felt comfortable enough with each other would sneak up behind someone, shove their index finger between their buttcheeks, and scream "FINGER IN YOUR BUTT!"

This game went on for about a year, and was almost ALWAYS done at social gatherings where the intended prey was trying to put a smooth move on someone else. Women played this, men played this. We had Canadians, Americans, old farts and twenty-somethings playing it. A friend of mine still has "FIYB" as his custom Washington license plate (it's translated via the questioners at the DMV to "Family is Your Bond").

It was cool, and the game was played amongst people who both trusted each other and knew who was playing.

It ended when someone who was not in that circle of friends decided it was a cool and fun game to play on someone who both wasn't cool with the intimacy and didn't know about the game.

If you were a player, you were fair game, and you became a player by sticking your finger in someone who was playing's ass and screaming "FINGER IN YOUR BUTT!"

He didn't know this rule. He also thought since people at this social gathering were running around screaming "FINGER IN YOUR BUTT" it must be a FIYB party.

He got a black eye and a boot from the party he tried it at, the woman who he did it to pressed sexual assault charges, and he was basically beat the hell down for what he saw as innocent prankster fun.

The fact is, it's not hard to hack someone's Facebook account or their Gmail account. Most people I know also know that if they did this to me, they are considered fair game for cheerful and happy retribution on an entirely different level, because (without being immodest) I am clever, and I have toys, and I have friends who do not mind skirting the gray area of the law.

And if, like Johnny said, he doesn't think it's a big deal and thinks it's HI-LARIOUS, then I know Johnny's going to be someone who doesn't ever get to use any of my computers.

In two cases because he'd have to sign an NDA that harvests his organs if he uses anything on it, and the third and fourth because I'm not going to spent time wiping out fifteen bookmarked pages of horse-on-girl porn. And if he did, he should probably know that I'd find a way to sign him up for fifteen hundred Amway salesman meetings back-to-back with Jehovah's Witless and Mormon missionary visitations.

I'd possibly also float his name to a couple of friends who love extended practical jokes.

And maybe you don't think emailing someone's grandmother to tell her she's dog-fuckingly old and should just die already is funny. But the guy who did that to the schmuck who got onto the original person's Facebook and began posting naked picture of the hackee's girlfriend had to be convinced that was a better alternative than beating the shit out of his former acquaintance and then harvesting one of his kidneys.

Some people do not play by the nice rules you play by, TIP. Some people choose the more direct route. If that bothers you, don't play in the sandbox with those kids, and definitely don't pull a prank on them. Some folks simply don't think you're that funny, and a small subsection of those people have to be physically restrained from making you wear your laptop screen as a necklace.

But, then again, I tend to pick who I play FIYB with, and it's a very SMALL subsection of people who I know are going to play by a set of rules.

I think what K is getting at is that watching you two lovebirds do foreplay isn't nearly as much fun for everyone else here as it seems to be for you guys, so I request that you get a room or at least take it to PM.

What's innocent, harmless fun for one person can be a very, VERY harmful or violation of trust for someone else. So rather than making a blanket assumption that it's okay and people should just treat it as harmless fun, considering the audience and their potential reactions to what you interpret as harmless fun or that it's all okay (because in personal anecdotes it all worked out) is a really good way to find yourself alienated and/alienating everyone else.
