Not your monkey.

Know what cracks me up?  The flag of Chile.

It's like a budget version of the American flag.

It's like a half step away from the Texan flag.

It occured to me a while back that the Texas flag is basically an easy-reader version of the US flag.

It occurs to me that the design could be simplified some more. Our good friends in the East have managed it.

Not as simple as France's flag.

Google Goddess

This struck my as rather beautiful.

Awwww, isn't he a cute little idealist?

Having accidentally walked through the protest at Union Square, I can say three things:
1. It was a good day for the flagmakers - lots of people selling flags of all kinds.
2. A lot of kids had American flags, because the flags were the smaller ones rather than the full on flags like in the picture above.
3. Little American flags have really pointy ends and become effective poking tools when clutched in the pudgy fists of children. Seriously, they need to start rounding those suckers off, because I was watching all the little pointy ends go by (and lmost got poked by a few full-sized ones) and could only think about how it was a safety hazard.

The Sociopathic Queen Of Evil. And Ponies.

France jokes will never go out of fashion.

And I, for one, HATE the American flag.  I do.

You know why?

I think red, white, and blue is a TERRIBLY TACKY color scheme.

I do.

I'd like something in a royal blue, with maybe the eagle in gold somewhere in the middle.  Simple, elegant, and makes a statement.

As for the American anthem being sung in Spanish, I hate the American anthem too.  Too many damn high notes I can't reach.

Funny, because I actually do love America.  I just want to change some shit around.

Not your monkey.

I heard the recording.  It's... it's... well, I guess it's about the same quality as a recording of the national anthem in English.

That is to say, it's bad enough that I'm gonna deport every last one of them myself.   Wink

Would it be wrong for me to point out the HUGE differences between the original French and later English versions of O Canada?  Seriously.  Huge.

I don't think that's wrong to point out at all.

Do all the different versions of the song (cause that page seemed to have quite a few of them) get sung?  It looks like it's been the declared national anthem for about 25 years (if I'm reading the article right?) and there haven't been any new versions, but the old versions are recognized as part of the history of the song.  Are the different versions still sung by different people?

The Senate passed this resolution on Monday.

Now this is going to go up for a vote in the House.

I knew that second link was going to be bad the moment I saw the word 'Ryun' in the link...

On behalf of Kansas, speaking as somewhat of a Kansan expatriate, I apologise for, well, the state, really.

So very sorry about Kansas, guys.

I've never heard any but one version each in English and French.  The others are recognized as part of its evolution, but what we might call the "official" versions have been stable as long as I can remember.  The French version is exactly as I recall it from my very early school days (I was a French Immersion kid, so no English in school for the first few years).
