Senator McCain's speech was interesting.

It only looks like that because they haven't changed since 2004 (or since 2001).  The Democrats are finally organized and behind a single person, and he's capable of being inspirational.  John Kerry was more of a funeral director you're pretty sure could make you feel okay about losing your mother's body.

I tuned in to listen to it on the radio, while I drove home last night. I got a bit of the speech from Sen. Lindsey Graham, and had to change stations because I found myself screaming at the radio. Then, after I'd calmed down a bit, I turned it back on, somewhere during the video "documentary" about 9-11. I had to change stations again, and couldn't go back, because I was afraid I'd succumb to road rage and kill someone.

They were REALLY playing up the "Fear and Terror" campaign, or at least, that speaker and the video certainly were. I haven't heard "vote for us or the brown people will eat your children" innuendo like that since... Well, since the last presidential election, I suppose. Graham was touting McCain as a savior for having turned the war around, and implying that he'd been the major and primary driving force behind the surge, while completely ignoring the fact that we shouldn't have gone into Iraq in the first place, and once we did and we were committed, we should have gone in there with the overwhelming forces, and PROPERLY EQUIPPED SOLDIERS! But Rumsfeld, with the blessings of Bush and a Republican controlled Congress, ran the invasion and the ensuing war like a business, trying to get the most bang for the least amount of buck. Shorted the number of troops that the generals on the ground were recommending, shorted the troops themselves on essential equipment (well, until the press got ahold of that story)... And here's Lindsey, talking about McCain like he's the second coming for having gone over there and listened to what the generals on the ground were telling anyone who'd listen, when if the President and congress had listened to them in the first place, we probably wouldn't have needed the surge.

Meanwhile, the RNC is completely avoiding hard topics, like the economy, immigration reform, the war in Afghanistan (remember that place? The President doesn't, and the Repubs aren't talking about it, even though the Taliban is having their own "Surge"). And McCain is going along with all of that. Like he's voted with Bush 95% of the time over the last few years, while trying to get his ass into that Oval Office, by telling whoever will listen whatever they want to hear.

The sad part is, I voted for McCain back in 2000, during the Primaries. I didn't agree with everything he said. But I liked the fact that he was willing to say what he believed. The Straight Talk Express meant something then. And unfortunately, it didn't fly with enough people. But now, his "Straight Talk Express" seems more like a straight line of bullshit, getting as many people on board as he can, until he can get his ass in the fancy chair. But if he's willing to sell himself like that now, what's he going to do if he gets into the White House?

I don't think that Obama is "...blessed with such personal greatness that history has anointed [him] to save our country in its hour of need," as McCain said (without actually mentioning him by name). I would have liked to have seen him get some more political experience under his belt. But what Obama HAS shown is a willingness to pick good, solid advisors, and to actually listen to what they have to say.

McCain's a maverick. Do we need another four years of a cowboy in the White House?

Oh man, Bunner, I hadn't noticed.  That is AWESOME.

Wow, when the WSJ calls out a Republican candidate, damn.





Even when the McCain campaign accuses Obama of lying, they lie! And it's a lie that is easily seen through! They have to know there are records of how much funding a Senator asks for, are they that certain that people will just accept what they say and not call them on it?
