No, crazy person, that's not why we don't think you're experienced enough.

It's a joke. Laugh.
It only looks like that because they haven't changed since 2004 (or since 2001). The Democrats are finally organized and behind a single person, and he's capable of being inspirational. John Kerry was more of a funeral director you're pretty sure could make you feel okay about losing your mother's body.

I'm happy. See, I'm smiling!
I tuned in to listen to it on the radio, while I drove home last night. I got a bit of the speech from Sen. Lindsey Graham, and had to change stations because I found myself screaming at the radio. Then, after I'd calmed down a bit, I turned it back on, somewhere during the video "documentary" about 9-11. I had to change stations again, and couldn't go back, because I was afraid I'd succumb to road rage and kill someone.
They were
REALLY
playing up the "Fear and Terror" campaign, or at least, that speaker and the video certainly were. I haven't heard "vote for us or the brown people will eat your children" innuendo like that since... Well, since the last presidential election, I suppose. Graham was touting McCain as a savior for having turned the war around, and implying that he'd been the major and primary driving force behind the surge, while completely ignoring the fact that we shouldn't have gone into Iraq in the first place, and once we did and we were committed, we
should
have gone in there with the overwhelming forces, and PROPERLY EQUIPPED SOLDIERS! But Rumsfeld, with the blessings of Bush and a Republican controlled Congress, ran the invasion and the ensuing war like a business, trying to get the most bang for the least amount of buck. Shorted the number of troops that the generals on the ground were recommending, shorted the troops themselves on essential equipment (well, until the press got ahold of that story)... And here's Lindsey, talking about McCain like he's the second coming for having gone over there and listened to what the generals on the ground were telling anyone who'd listen, when if the President and congress had listened to them in the first place, we probably wouldn't have needed the surge.
Meanwhile, the RNC is completely avoiding hard topics, like the economy, immigration reform, the war in Afghanistan (remember that place? The President doesn't, and the Repubs aren't talking about it, even though the Taliban is having their own "Surge"). And McCain is going along with all of that. Like he's voted with Bush 95% of the time over the last few years, while trying to get his ass into that Oval Office, by telling whoever will listen whatever they want to hear.
The sad part is, I voted for McCain back in 2000, during the Primaries. I didn't agree with everything he said. But I liked the fact that he was willing to say what he believed. The Straight Talk Express meant something then. And unfortunately, it didn't fly with enough people. But now, his "Straight Talk Express" seems more like a straight line of bullshit, getting as many people on board as he can, until he can get his ass in the fancy chair. But if he's willing to sell himself like that now, what's he going to do if he gets into the White House?
I don't think that Obama is "...blessed with such personal greatness that history has anointed [him] to save our country in its hour of need," as McCain said (without actually mentioning him by name). I would have liked to have seen him get some more political experience under his belt. But what Obama HAS shown is a willingness to pick good, solid advisors, and to actually listen to what they have to say.
McCain's a maverick. Do we need another four years of a cowboy in the White House?

You know who is talking about it? Canadians. Because we're in the dead thick of that shit and losing handfuls of soldiers every other day, and we're really not entirely sure why. We're halfway between peacekeepers and janitors. *facepalm*

Apparently McCain had Walter Reed on the giant backdrop behind him during his speech for a 4-5 minute period.
Unfortunately, it was Walter Reed
middle school
, not Walter Reed
Medical Center
. Whoops.
The school has issued a statement:
Quote
"It has been brought to the school's attention that a picture of the front of our school, Walter Reed Middle School, was used as a backdrop at the Republican National Convention. Permission to use the front of our school for the Republican National Convention was not given by our school nor is the use of our school's picture an endorsement of any political party or view."
Awkward!

Boom
I saw that on the screen and went "Huh?" I turned to my father, who was watching with me, and asked him if he knew. He had no idea. I thought it might have been one of McCain's houses. It seemed nice enough, though rather green for Arizona.

McCain's history of hot temper raises concerns
Quote
WASHINGTON — John McCain made a quick stop at the Capitol one day last spring to sit in on Senate negotiations on the big immigration bill, and John Cornyn was not pleased.
Cornyn, a mild-mannered Texas Republican, saw a loophole in the bill that he thought would allow felons to pursue a path to citizenship.
McCain called Cornyn's claim "chicken-s---," according to people familiar with the meeting, and charged that the Texan was looking for an excuse to scuttle the bill. Cornyn grimly told McCain he had a lot of nerve to suddenly show up and inject himself into the sensitive negotiations.
"F--- you," McCain told Cornyn, in front of about 40 witnesses.
Yeah, let's give that guy the nuclear football and CinC and hope for the best.

The fricking *Wall Street Journal* calls McCain camp on lies
Wow, when the WSJ calls out a Republican candidate, damn.
Quote
The Bridge to Nowhere argument isn't going much of anywhere.
Despite significant evidence to the contrary, the McCain campaign continues to assert that Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin told the federal government "thanks but no thanks" to the now-famous bridge to an island in her home state.
Quote
Gov. Palin, who John McCain named as his running mate less than two weeks ago, quickly adopted a stump line bragging about her opposition to the pork-barrel project Sen. McCain routinely decries.
But Gov. Palin's claim comes with a serious caveat. She endorsed the multimillion dollar project during her gubernatorial race in 2006. And while she did take part in stopping the project after it became a national scandal,
she did not return the federal money.
She just allocated it elsewhere.
Quote
"Ketchikan desires a better way to reach the airport, but the $398 million bridge is not the answer," she said.
"Despite the work of our congressional delegation, we are about $329 million short of full funding for the bridge project, and it's clear that Congress has little interest in spending any more money on a bridge between Ketchikan and Gravina Island.
Much of the public's attitude toward Alaska bridges is based on inaccurate portrayals of the projects here. But we need to focus on what we can do, rather than fight over what has happened."
On Monday in Missouri, Gov. Palin put it this way:
"I told Congress thanks but no thanks for that bridge to nowhere.
If the state wanted to build a bridge we would built it ourselves."
Quote
But she's drawn considerable fire as result. Sen. Obama's campaign released an advertisement pointing out her original support of the bridge. And on Monday, an Obama staffer emailed a photo of Gov. Palin holding up a T-shirt that was made shortly after the bridge caught national attention. It reads "NOWHERE ALASKA" and "99901," the zip code of Ketchikan.
The McCain campaign jumped back with spokesman Brian Rogers calling the attacks "hysterical."
"
The only people 'lying' about spending are the Obama campaign.
The only explanation for their hysterical attacks is that they're afraid that when John McCain and Sarah Palin are in the White House,
Barack Obama's nearly $1 billion in earmark spending will stop dead in its tracks
," Mr. Rogers said.
At a rally today,
Sen. McCain again asserted that Sen. Obama has requested nearly a billion in earmarks. In fact, the Illinois senator requested $311 million last year, according to the Associated Press, and none this year.
In comparison, Gov. Palin has requested $750 million in her two years as governor -- which the AP says is the largest per-capita request in the nation.
Even when the McCain campaign accuses Obama of lying, they lie! And it's a lie that is easily seen through! They have to know there are records of how much funding a Senator asks for, are they that certain that people will just accept what they say and not call them on it?
