Saxon's Quest

You are standing in a field. You seem to be wearing a helmet, but have no other armor or weaponry. You do not remember who you are, or where you are.

Exits are to the South, East and West. To the South and West are more field. To the East, you smell something burning.

What is your next move?

Is there cover around? Take cover. Then check my pockets and belt for any other objects, coins, personal posessions, anything. Take off my helmet, and gingerly feel around my head- have I been hurt? Put the helmet back on

Then cautiously go East, trying to stay out of sight.

There is no immediate cover.
You have no personal posessions, other than your helmet.
You take the helmet off. You are not injured in any way, but you discover a mysterious runic inscription inside the helmet.

There are no arms in the bushes, human or weapon.

Someone has laid waste to this area. There are a few smouldering remains of what must have been a large fire.

There is a Viking shield on the ground.

Exits are West and East.

(okay, here's the deal. I have no idea where this is going. Totally making it up as I go along. Also, if multiple people post with commands and I can use all of them, I will. If the commands conflict, such as what direction The Saxon should go in, I will go with the one that most people agree with.)

Take a look and read the inscription, then pick up the shield.

Scan the area for signs of the bad guys.

The shield is solid, sturdy wood with iron reinforcement.

The inscription inside your helmet seems extremely familiar for some reason, but you can't read it.

Imaginary has been eaten by a grue.

It is ordinary grass, now brown and dried thanks to the ravaging of the land here. It is still smouldering a little, and giving off plenty of smoke. Beyond that, it does not seem to be anything special.

Let's continue further east.  This is fun!

Here, the burned portion of land ends. There is a signpost. A patch of earth looks recently turned over.

Exits are East, to more fields, or South.
