So ... where in America is foggy? Where has great forests? Where is awesome in culture?

Is there somewhere that's all three?

Uh, California?  Specifically, SF Bay Area.  Fog? Check.  Forests?  Ayup.  Culture?  Yuppers.

Were you looking for specific types of forests or culture?

I dunno, I'm not sure. I'm frankly looking for Maine without all the bad parts. Pine forests.

Washington State, maybe? You seem to be describing Bellingham, by Haok's accounts... but then, the economy is tanking there as it is most places.

Seattle gets fog on occasion.  And the forests... well, just across the Sound is the only temperate rainforest in the world.  Plus there are trees all over the place in general.  Culture isn't a problem, either.

That does sound nice.

Economy will suck everywhere, frankly. Just a "net" that isn't entirely holes would be nice. And a state that doesn't think the epitome of mental healthcare is going to church.

Culture isn't a problem, either.

That's because Seattle is hipster central.
They had culture before having culture was cool.

I think I shall find an excuse and a way to visit Seattle sometime this year.

Yayyyyy Seattle!  :star:

If you want to be convinced to move here, I recommend anywhere from late May to late September as your best bets, with the middle of the range being best.  :-^ The rest of the year can be gorgeous, too, of course, but that's when the Emerald City really polishes it up. ;)

I have really liked Seattle the handful of times I have been there, and the weather really agrees with me - even the winter rainy weather, because, fuck, compare it to Boston - but I hear that the hipsters have really spawned a lot of swarms in the couple years since my last visit. I'm not too keen on moving to a city that has such a high chance of zerg-rush-style hipster mobs.

Wellllll.... I hate to admit it, but by most rubrics, I kind of am a hipster, or at least hipster-adjacent. :/

I don't encounter hipsters very often here, actually.  Not much intersection between my circle of friends and that crowd.

I like Starbucks, skinny jeans, and street musicians. Also computer programming, board games, MMOs and internet culture. I find Seattle a pretty good fit for my lifestyle :D

However, I am still angry at the Seattle Police Department for being dumb racist fucks for the entire last couple of years.

Hipsters REALLY aren't that bad.  They generally won't make you mad or get in your way unless you're aiming to let them do so. In my experience they may be annoying, but they're not particularly intrusive - you usually have to really engage them to put yourself in a place where you could be really pissed off at them, and if you find yourself doing that and one really annoys you, hell, walking away is always an option.
I'd say if hipsters are the biggest thing you're worried about, then you're in a pretty good place.

I find I often have to point out to my friends that they are hipsters. They just consider themselves artsy, or college students ... buuuttt...

"Hipster" has not always been a dirty word.

Would you freak out if I said I liked you?
Do you walk the line?
Is your IQ higher than your neighbour’s?
And is it very much higher than mine?

Can you sleep when I grind my teeth?
Do you look away if I slob when I eat?
Will you let me be myself?
Can you at all times wear socks, because I’m still scared of feet?

Do you talk in the middle of Seinfeld?
Do you read more than two books a month?
Do you get racist or sexist when you’ve had a few?
Is it fine if I make more money than you?

Have you slept with any people I work with?
Is there anyone you’d rather wish I’d be?
Do you still keep pictures of old girlfriends?
Are they prettier than me?
