Totally legit "send a postcard" request
« on: January 12, 2012, 06:39:00 PM »
So the nephew of a co-worker of mine is doing a project for school, and wants postcards from every state for this project.  I told him I'd put out the word.  If any of you good folk feel like sending a random kid a postcard from your state.  He needs the following states:

Alaska
North Dakota
South Dakota
Oregon
Arkansas
Kansas
Mississippi
Wisconsin
Minnesota
Nebraska
Oklahoma
Montana
Idaho
Utah
Ohio
Indiana
Iowa
Illinois
Vermont
New Hampshire

If you'd be willing to help out, PM me, and I'll shoot you his address. He needs the cards by January 27.

Thanks!

...Where is a good place to get state post cards? That's what would hinder me from being able to send one.

Usually, drugstores have them, in my experience.  However, I don't think it necessarily has to be OF a state, but come FROM a state.  So putting "hello from (state)!" would probably do, if the postmark isn't enough.

Lemme ask Best Friend in Omaha.  He might be willing to do Nebraska.
A friend disappointed me a short while ago. She e-mailed a message with the subject line 'Trap Neuter Return' and the message had nothing to do with the Duggar family. *sad* -Hippie

Thanks all!  I think I've sent everyone the address who's offered to help.

Enso, I think at this point, we may have hit about 12 possibles out of the 15 he needed - my husband was checking with a few people, as was Midi.  She did get someone from Idaho.  I suspect we'll have done a good job - doubly so considering the email went out to the whole department.  So my suggestion would be to send 'em if you will, or if a friend is willing, go for it.  Otherwise, I think it's probably time to stop, lest this becomes the stuff of urban legend.  Thanks, all.  You definitely went above and beyond asking friends to help - but that's one of the things I love about this group.  You are not only willing to do a favor for the nephew of a co-worker of a friend; you'll recruit more help!

Point of order does he need it postmarked from the state, or it sent in an envelope?

I have no idea, but I think it's creeper just to send a postcard, which would mean it's postmarked.

So what is the current list? I know someone in South Dakota who could maybe send a postcard, as well as Iowa and Ohio.

Thanks for thinking of me Tamsin.  However, the deadline for the postcards has passed, I think at the end of the month.

I've been meaning to check with my co-worker to see how his nephew did.  If I hear anything I'll let you all know.
