Rev, that poll that goes along with the article is pretty interesting, too.

55% of people have seen a teacher totally lose his/her shit.

I remember in 11th grade, my Sociology teacher was fresh out of college himself, and only really held the class together by being one of the coolest teachers I ever had.  One day, though, I guess his grandfather had died, so he was already a bit unstable.  Then, the class troublemaker started something, and kept pushing and pushing, so the teacher finally gets fed up, and orders the kid out into the hall.  As he's walking to the door to have a talk with the kid, the teacher grabs one of the desks and flings it across the room.  It was pretty... surprising, to say the least.  I mean, I didn't feel scared or threatened, but it was just SO... crazy.

Yeah, I don't think I'll ever forget that.  It's moments like that that remind you your teachers, and other authority figures, are really just people.  I'm glad it happened in high school, though, when I was already jaded and cynical, so I wasn't too disenchanted.

World's new oldest mother is happy to have a new son, but not a new daughter.

*facepalm* You know, I am becoming more and more convinced that sexual equality makes not just moral sense, but economic sense as well. Saddling the already overburdened family with more debt just to make a male heir, and then passing that debt on to the poor little mite? Not entirely a good idea.

Wow. It just goes all downhill from there, too....

Quote
It is likely donor eggs were used to allow her to carry a child, but the Panwars simply do not know what happened when they went to a fertility clinic in Meerut last year.

So, for all buddy-boy happy dad knows, it might not even be his kid, genetically, depending on what sort of monkeying-around they've done.

*ponders* After all, isn't the determination of sex really a sperm thing?

Given what I know about genetics and reproduction, which isn't much, isn't it more likely that they had to use a sperm donor to get a male, if he'd been producing nothing buy daughters before?

Not necessarily, Bunner. The article says that they had two daughters already. So he fertlized eggs four times, getting X three times and Y one time. This doesn't mean that there is something wrong with the Y sperm. There aren't enough fertlilizations to be statistically relevant. Flip a coin four times and see if you get two heads and two tails.

edit: more infos.

That's... kinda interesting. In a "She must have been a real bitch to a lot of people to deserve that kind of memorial." sort of way.

Oh, shoot, it was only two daughters? My bad, for some reason I thought they had more than that. Like, four or five of them. Memo to self: LARN TO READ.  Even then, yeah, you're still right, but it still bothers the heck out of me that they didn't even bother to know what procedure or anything they shelled out 4k to have. I mean, damn, son, if I drop four grand on a treatment, I'm damn well going to know what they're doing to me.

Huh.

Well, in short, it said "A woman died.  She was a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.  And not a one of us will miss her because she was a horrible woman who spent her whole life tearing our family apart.  Good riddance."
