That one really bummed me out.  My moms favorite writer.  She had first editions of all her books.  I dug her too.

Damnit.  I always kind of thought that I would end up meeting her someday.  RIP Ms. McCaffrey.  Thanks for letting us play in your imagination.

I third that. I was flirting with the idea of going to Ireland in the middle of my planned London trip next year for just that reason. :(

RIP: Ken Russell, legendary filmmaker, dead at 84.

I loved Tommy, Altered States, and Lair of the White Worm especially.

Hubert Sumlin, legendary side man for Howlin' Wolf passes away at 80.  I'm raising a glass of bourbon to my buddy.

RIP: Veteran actor Harry Morgan, best remembered for his roles as Detective Bill Gannon on Dragnet and Colonel Sherman T. Potter on M*A*S*H, passed away today in his LA home.

He was 96.

Morgan was a versatile actor who starred in over 100 movies. But most will remember him as the yin to Jack Webb’s Joe Friday on the revived version of Dragnet or as McLean Stevenson’s tough but fair replacement on the long-running war dramedy M*A*S*H.

Morgan was recovering from a recent bout of pneumonia, but an official cause of death has yet to be released.

RIP the first modern zombie on film (I say modern to distinguish from voodoo zombies in White Zombie)

http://www.avclub.com/articles/rip-bill-hinzman-night-of-the-living-deads-origina,68960/

Quote
"RIP Bill Hinzman, the actor who played the first zombie in Night of the Living Dead." Mr Hinzman died of cancer at the age of 75.

Hinzman was working on the movie as an assistant cameraman when Romero spotted him and knew he'd found his zombie muse. "We'd like to tell the story that it was a hard audition session," said Russ Steiner, who co-produced the film and played Johnny. "But Bill was there and old enough and thin enough and he had an old suit." Hinzman (whose name is spelled "Heinzman" in the credits of Living Dead) remained in Romero's orbit for years, working in a variety of functions on There's Always Vanilla, Hungry Wives, and The Crazies, as well as the equally chilling 1974 TV sports documentary O. J. Simpson: Juice On The Loose.

He’d largely drifted out of the business by the time Romero's post-Living Dead career really began in earnest with Martin and Dawn Of The Dead, but by the late 1980s, his cult status was secure, and he found himself lured back to appear in a number of low-budget horror pictures where his presence served as an instant in-joke. (For example: In 2006’s Shadow: Dead Riot—starring Night Of The Living Dead remake lead—Hinzman’s character is billed as "Romero the Zombie".)
