Time to pick up the Christmas episode, which I iplayered because Christmas dinner.

Star Wars opening. Massive horribly beweaponed starship comes on screen a bit at a time. 'PEOPLE OF EARTH: YOU STAND ALONE... INTRUDER ALERT! INTRUDER ALERT!'... cue large explosions aboard ship. Nice start.

edit: This grand old house has the Doctor in it and it has a lot of old statues in it. I do not trust them.

edit: The Doctor is in his manic phase and going very Wonka.

edit: At some point in the next couple of years I may well end up having my own house. Or at least flat. I'm taking interior design notes.

edit: And why did I not spot what the titular Wardrobe would be? Really, I'm ashamed of myself and I lose many fanboy points. The title's an obvious Narnia reference, of course. But not to spot this:

So yes. Incredibly obvious and I didn't see it coming. I'm an idiot.

"What do they teach you in schools these days?" NERDGASM.

The phrase
(click to show/hide)
is running around my mind now.

The Doctor just found out how the Green Lantern always felt. No, not him, the one before.

Stop saying the A-word, you're making me think you're going to get killed again.

"Do what I always do: hold tight, and pretend it's a plan." Advice to live one's life by.

STOP SAYING 'MUMMY' LIKE THAT, BOY! BAD BAD SCARY ASSOCIATIONS.

Wait wait wait, if they can just transmit themselves away like that now, why couldn't they before?

"Got a bit glitchy in the middle there, but it worked out all right in the end. Story of my life." Pretty much what you get when you live by the earlier-stated rule :-)

"I'm not going to hug first."

I'll be honest, while entertaining, I thought it was overall fairly weak.  Been a couple of weeks since I last saw it, so I can't really give examples, but I thought last year's take on "A Christmas Carol" (complete with fog sharks) still ranks as the best one so far.

That said, the end was great, and I'm definitely looking forward to the upcoming season/series.

Yeah, fun to watch, but I'll have forgotten it come next year. The Christmas ones are always light and fluffy; the ones I remember are the ones involving really terrifying monsters ;-)

I am getting more and more disillusioned with Matt Smith's portrayal of The Doctor. He just doesn't seem to have the gravitas I expect from the universe-saving genius. In many ways he reminds me of how Sylvester McCoy (my childhood doctor) was seen at the time. History may have been kinder to him, but at the moment I feel somewhat... meh.

I'm confused.. I don't know whether to toss you onto the nearest horizontal and/or vertical surface and make delightful lovings to you for a) insulting The Doctor or for b) referencing Red Dwarf... I am confused and as such you must win because comedy always works best when it is mean-spirited...
