Music Videos
« on: May 29, 2006, 06:40:45 PM »
So I was browsing You Tube and finding all sorts of cool stuff I haven't seen in forever. So I made a thread, cause if I want to show off videos I like, other people presumably will too.

Here's a Paul Simon video, from his Graceland album, with a really young Chevy Chase.

Yup a good song from a good CD.

TV On The Radio is the best band of the decade.  Their second LP drops in July, and it's fucking brilliant.  This is "Dreams," from their first full-length.

Yes that Radiohead video is disturbing all right.

TV on the Radio is not quite my thing, but their video is entertaining.

Agreed, and IMHO, Graceland was his best solo album. I still dig the Simon & Garfunkel stuff more than their respective solo efforts. I have to say, though, that Call Me Al is a great video for a great song.

Also, I don't get the Radiohead video.

Also, I don't get the Radiohead video.
He sings, the water rises, he's submerged, he drowns himself for about a minute, it recedes, he gasps for air.  Instead of a distracting visual, they force you to stare at Yorke (creepy enough!) who proceeds to inflict (or have inflicted) water torture on himself while you watch.  It's entirely conceptual, and reflects the song (and the album's) take on modern society, as isolating, suffocating, and confining.

Also, the sphere makes his face get all funny underwater.

I see all that. It's just that, very much unlike the Flash animation for another Radiohead song that was posted in another thread here, it completely fails to work for me on just about every level. I look at it and I can kinda see where he's going with it, but it does not move me. At all.

Not overimpressed with the song, but what a wonderful idea for a video...

Just found this one while poking around.  First viewing says:  I like it.  We'll see how I feel on subsequent viewings... and once I translate the lyrics.1

LOL. You can call me Al. I love the perfect Sowetoness of that song. And that video...you know, everybody knows that Paul is a little guy, but that REALLY shows it.

Ha I was totally going to try to find tht Beastie Boys video.

How about a flashback to 1982?

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/v/DpeNLuiaDIY" target="_blank" class="new_win">http://www.youtube.com/v/DpeNLuiaDIY</a>

Rush is still going, and Subdivisions wears pretty well. The video's not artisticly astounding or anything, it's just so early 80's. The clothes and general look remind me of being a little kid again.

That's why we needed punk rock.

Gang of Four - To Hell With Poverty (1980 or 81)

Fugazi - The Waiting Room (in 1988!  Whoa!)

Ahhh Gang of Four. Mmm.

The song for this one is ok, I don't think the remix added all that much to it, but the sight of David Bowie being chased through the streets by Trent Reznor just amuses the hell out of me.

These two just remind me to much of my first apartment all on my own.  They always seemed to be on when I got home from work and I really liked them.

It's a gangsta rap video, except it's not gangsta rap.
