WRT MOAR:  Fucking finally.

I mean I'm sure Missy will still show up now and then, but at least for the time being she'll hopefully be less frequently around.  I think it's kind of amusing that he decided to wank it to a Violet fantasy.  Give her something fun to find next time she goes digging through his head.  Jamie may be a bit stupid at times, but he's not the worst protagonist ever.

Sometimes I wake up with my nose in the grass.

Violet will probably totally act disgusted about it, but then get herself off to it later.

Nah, she's not a priss, as far as I can tell. If anything, it will be mock-disgust just to get a rise out of Jamie. Agreed about the "get herself off to it later" part, though. :-)

And yeah, I'm with sinic on this - anything that leads to a decrease in the amount of time we read about Missy is a good thing. There's probably going to be a bit of drama in the next chapters, but I'm willing to grit my teeth if it means much less Missy down the road.

ETA: and it turns out that Violet is a Beth, and not a Temperance. :-)

Although I didn't like that bonus story all that much. It seemed to be more about crappy teachers and hippie parents than about Violet...

I liked Missy, in an odd sort of way. She was just SO dumb and oblivious. Id be like Marlot and make a game out of how long I could be outrageously sarcastic to her before she noticed.

Also, she teaches us a Valuable Lesson about judging people on first appearances: the pleasingly straight forward, sex positive, seemingly quirky chick can be just as much of a worthless, neurotic moron as most women are. It's wrong to jump to silly conclusions and start treating any given woman as a real person too early on.

Re: ToMU#273. De Nile and all that. But this went way beyond surreal and right into WTF country. Seriously, disbelief wasn't just no longer suspended, it came crashing down hard. I'm now looking forward to the next updates in the way I look forward to seeing the next train wreck. Which isn't much at all.

Re: MOAR#40: That's better. Marlot, when she dials down the obnoxiousness to a more reasonable level, is actually a rather fascinating and likable character. I also keep liking Violet more and more. She's weird, true, but so far in a mostly good way. I expect that she'll piss me off sooner or later by using her talents in a way I find totally unacceptable, but still, you take what you can get.

Violet's circular logic when it comes to justifying her perusal of other people's minds is flimsy at best, but then again I guess if I had that talent I'd probably want to browse through people's minds to dig up all the gossip.  It just seems kind of like a recipe for disaster, or at least something that could come back to bite her in the ass later.  You've got a dorm of sexually curious freshman and then one of them has the ability to read minds and let you know if the person you're crushing on feels the same back to you.  Sure she's a bit weird, but I can really see people trying to break down her door, so to speak, to find out who's hot for them.  I mean the only thing stopping her is her already suspect moral code.

I'm sure granny Blaise is going to love hearing about Mack's pansexuality.  Should make for some interesting reading for Amy when the next letters come in.  I mean you've got the most conservative character in the story thus far sending letters to be read by a character who is the most liberal by the very design of her being.  I give it a week before Amy snaps.  Should be interesting, nonetheless.  I mean she's a holy being so you'd think Granny would approve of her doing her holy work, but she's also a dirty, dirty sexual being.

Have they said how Granny feels about nymphs yet?

Heck, as much of a die-hard Khersian as Granny is, I'm not sure she acknowledges Khaele as a full deity (see also Anankha). I don't think her opinions on Khaele or the nymphs and satyrs has ever been made clear, though. And yes, Amy reading those letter should be interesting. In the Chinese proverb sense.

As for Violet, I don't think her moral code is any more suspect that that of the average college freshman. In fact, I have the feeling it might actually be better than most, her using her powers for sordid entertainment purposes notwithstanding. Will she do something catastrophically stupid? Very probably. Will she still be likable afterwards? I sincerely hope so.

Something I'd like to see sooner rather than later: Violet and Marlot together (and not necessarily in that way, you pervs!). This could get all kinds of interesting...

I just wonder with Violet being the way she is what's going to happen if she inadvertently runs across Mack.  I also kind of wonder which story it will be in first.  It sounds like Violet doesn't really have the necessary training to keep her mind out of an infernal mind.

Might also be interesting to see what happens if she's around both Amy and Mack... having he mind touch a divine and infernal mind at the same time.

Hrm, I bet we'd be surprised at how talented Vio will turn out to be.  Essentially it sounds like most human psi have been trained to limit themselves, shut themselves out, etc.  Vio seems to let more seepage in than others, but I wouldn't be surprised if she doesn't just have the ability to withstand brushing up against Mack but actually look into the pit without bleeding from the eyes and shitting her pants.

Just because she's been working that muscle while everybody else has been trying to shut it out.

I don't know. Dee, while she may not have Violet's raw talent, certainly has been trained in the subtle arts throughout her life, and she's quite cautious about not touching Mackenzie's mind unprepared. As such, I'd say that brushing up against it might be fine for Violet, but that actually looking into the pit is probably still a bad idea, even for her.

Also, I LOL'd at today's MOAR subtitle. It would have been even better had she somehow worked that into the story itself.

Took me entirely too long to get the subtitle.

Also, I'm back to not liking Iason quite so much.  I mean I realize everything he did was precisely in character for him, but still rather disheartening to see that he's still unwilling to overcome his baser impulses.  I guess you need to establish the base impulses first, though, before you can show character growth and actually overcoming said impulses.  Then again this is assuming character development.

Also, I keep forgetting to mention this, but what the fuck's the deal with Kira?  Who is she again and why does she always seem to be running off?  Has she been given any kind of development or is she just "running away girl"?

Kai will fuck somebody up, apparently.

And likes romances.

Though sometimes I get bored with Mack.  Seriously.  There's only so much rolling over.

I enjoy Prof. Hart.  Kind of sad Mack's as thick as a Roman wall.  Then again that could probably be said a lot for college freshmen.  It's just weird how she goes from so feisty about equal rights for non-humans to basically just rolling over in class.  I get the feeling Hart would support her if she showed half the flicker of passion about non-human rights in class that she did outside of it, but instead she just gets brow beat by La Belle and then chronically misunderstood by characters like Carter.  What that class really needs to round it out, though, is another student who actually gets it... and not some canon character who's just going to end up drilling Mack or any of the other staple characters.  It just needs to be "random decent human" who's there arguing the same points as her.

Not much is known about her. Jamie is convinced she lied about some things during the introduction on the floor meeting, and he suspects that she is half dark-elf, half human, which is an unlikely and somewhat controversial mix. Not quite at Mackenzie's half-demon, half human level, but close.

And yes, Prof. Hart rocks. He's kinda similar to Dee in many aspects, except without her total dedication to politeness: he's smart, knows how to get his point across while being deceptively understated, and the snark is strong in him.
