A.) It's dear old dad. But dad probably has to have had some good element, right?
That was my guess, too. Thing is, although we know quarter-demons exist, Mack is apparently a half demon, which makes daddy a full or pureblood or whatever they call them. I would've thought he'd be a more obviously monstrous creature of hell, but maybe full demons come with more innate powers, or maybe he's a powerful enough mage to illusion or shapechange.
Either way, hungry Mack is awesome.

He could simply be a possessed human with enough power and smarts to have avoided detection. Maybe when you're possessed by a demon and you have sex with a human you produce half-demon off-spring. I mean it gets hinted at that the possessing aspect trumps with that cleric in the labyrinth.
Anyways, I'm half wondering if it might be the Mercy guy "collecting" a half-demon order to have on hand for if/when they need it.

Another thought... what if it's someone from the school? I mean when she was possessed and on the library's web she said she had to navigate several firewalls before she was able to get to Mercy's site. I don't know how much site admins in there can watch what users are doing, but I doubt Mack's enough of a hacker to have evaded all detection. What if someone from the school was watching her place her reservations and found this to be a convenient way to make the problem of Mack go away?
I mean all you need is a few photos of her lapping up virgin blood and eating human steaks to completely tank her case. Nothing would sway a jury more that the plaintiff is a murderous monster than photos of her being, well, a monster.

<rolls eyes> update schedule issues again. I think I should just take a month off of this story, that way I won't be all like, wtf? She said she'd update in the "wee" hours of the morning, seventeen fucking hours ago. (It is now the "wee" hours of the afternoon).

I'm amazed that donations keep pouring in, to be honest. I've never been great with my update schedule on Grog, but if I had been getting money for it, I'd have probably stopped accepting it, and DEFINITELY stopped asking/expecting.

Page a day is totally not sustainable, and she can't make a "buffer" like an author of a three-panel single strip could.
I dunno what would be better. Maybe something as simple as two chapters every two days, or something?
Personally Id rather she skipped a strip occasionally then churned out something rubbish just to feed the mill. That'd kill MY creativity pretty fast.

Agreed with the not sustainable- especially when there are so many stories going on.
If three pages a week was the limit, but she was upfront with it, that'd be totally different. And probably better.

Huh. Not exactly what was expected, but still interesting. It adds a bit of new life into the plot. Should be kind of fun to see where this ends up going.

Enjoy Og-R-Snax Brand Snack Foods*
Hrm, anything one could think of that would require breeding half-demons isn't anything sane people would be messing with.
I wonder what the breeding cycle is. Probably magically fast.
I wasn't expecting Mercy to be quite that raving batshit insane. Evil, sneaky, sure, but ... srsly?

So I was bouncing this idea of Pix last night and it seems at least semi-plausible...
So Callahan and Mercy were both part of the Hydra squad and have both introduced themselves into Mack's life. Callahan has shown herself to be brutal, but fair (to a greater or lesser extent) and ergo is the "good" guy. Mercy has shown herself to be somewhat unstable and has nefarious intentions and could be seen as "evil." What I was thinking is that in some future Hydra Squad flashback we see a falling out between Callahan and Mercy when Mercy is revealed as a
Fallen Hero
or something similar. Fast forward to the present and now coach finds out that Mercy is after Mack and decides to really step up her
antihero
status and protect Mack, a classic
Good is Dumb
(or at least inept) character. Actually, most of the protagonists fall under the Good Is Dumb trope, esp. regarding Stabby.
I could see this going even further with the gang from MOAR meeting up now and then with our main cast... then in a TWEEST, at the end of the semester Mercy kidnaps Mack. The summer then follows Mack in her imprisonment in the main MU arch while MOAR focuses on the rest of the gang trying to find and free Mack. Of course that might intertwine the two stories too much since you'd have to read both to get the full sense of what's going on in the story, but I could still see it happening... especially since they're kitting Jamie out with so many enchantments he might as well turn out to be a tricked out hero.
Of course we probably won't reach summer for at least another five years so we don't really have much to worry about.

I *heart* pie (sexily).
That's a really interesting option to be offering. If Mack weren't so dead-set on not letting any more demonbloods into the world... she's stated somewhere that she doesn't even want regular kids, much less more half-demons.
Mercy is pretty interesting.

The thing that would matter the most for me, here, is the revelation that the person who died to make my bucket of Kentucky Fried Human was one of Mercy's "personal assistants", and therefore not anyone I would actually give a shit about. Mack really didn't seem to be fretting over that as much as I would be, but maybe her and Steff were deliberately not thinking about it.
The food for thought that's most concerning is Mercy's assertion that half-demons suck and normally meet sucktacular ends, and that Mack's planned Normal Life ain't gonna happen. I don't recall the exact quote, but we already know that of the last four or so demon bloods that went to MU, only one of them graduated and didn't subsequently get arrested or killed or what have you, and that was one of the quarter demons.
Makes me wonder if there's some kind of equivalent of Hearts of Stone for demon bloods, really.
I mean, if 75% percent of a racial minority had a tendancy to meet sticky and violent ends, often although not always in ways that involve mass amounts of fire and property damage, either society in general would research half-demons more and get a better sense of what sets them off and how dangerous they really are, or one of the demon bloods who managed to get through life without eating everyone would set something up.
Yeah, Khersians, prejudices and all, but it seems odd that they've managed to win equal rights and equal treatment and that university professors are usually happy not to mention the issue to your face, but at the same time they havn't managed to get any special treatment. That's what special interest groups
do
. The human ego loathes the idea of being given equality and then left to it's own devices: we can't stand to be ignored. One of the reasons big government is so prevailent.

S*S your prejudice is showing.
Sinic: I still say that Iason was raised by Mercy, which would throw an interesting twist into your idea of what's gonna happen with the series.

Is anyone else getting a bit annoyed that not a single character has put Mack's possession and the damned pitchfork together yet? They aren't stupid, they know the properties of the "cursed" pitchfork, people have been going bat-shit crazy around it, and yet not one of them can put the two together? Sure, as readers we have a bit more inside information, but I don't think that it's that hard to figure out when even Two starts acting hostile.
And in response to the current chapter:
Well, that was anti-climactic. I was expecting something a bit more.

This should be interesting.
Wonder if Dee went Postal.
Nevermind. Just went back and refreshed my memory with
this
and I'm guessing Dee was arrested for public indecency.
