Name: Cuddy Sal

Age: 29

Class: Ratling Sniper

Physical Description: A small, dirty little abhuman, with short, dirty blonde hair. He has nice eyes- kind of a bright blue, that sparkle when he laughs or gets excited. Certainly not the cold, far away look a lot of snipers pick up.

His uniform is old and very dirty, and could use a few patches here and there, but he's never requested a new one.

Personality:

Quiet. Reserved. Tells a good joke occasionally, and has a good laugh. Yet despite having served alongside him for a while, you have no idea who he is or why he came to be here. Seems to be very intelligent, oddly enough.

Background:

Formally involved in a black market trade of cardamine, his cell was busted by the arbites, with assistance from the local regiment they'd been dealing too.

Offered a choice by a redemption-obsessed Commissar between service in the Guard or outright death, he chose the one that offered him the slightly longer lifespan.

Wargear:

Sniper Rifle- maintained obsessively, wrapped in a old, green blanket with local flora attached to it.

Plasma Pistol (3 points)- Worn in a beautifully made leather holster, the ratling actually has this holstered at his lower back, like a shotgun or carbine. Always carried unloaded, but with spare cells to hand.

Surveyor (1 point)- In a small pouch at his side.

Demolition Charge (4 points)- Jammed into a small haversack carried on his back.

                                       WS       BS      S       T       Int       D       W         I       A       Ld       Sv
Cuddy Sal                 +2       +4     +2     +2     +3     +4      2      +5     1    +3      +2

Weapon stats:

Sniper Rifle - special rules.  Always hits on a roll of 8 or above, and always wounds on a roll of 10 or above, provided the enemy doesn't know your position.  Well described shots may not need a roll to hit.

Plasma Pistol - Strength 7, target suffers a -5 penalty to their armor save bonus (to a minimum of +0), Gets Hot*

Demolition Charge
- This satchel charge creates a blast with a 15 foot radius at Strength 8, and targets within the blast do not get the benefit of armor saving throws.  Also rolls 2d6 plus strength for vehicle armor penetration.

*Gets Hot - So far, human attempts at plasma weaponry are as yet unstable.  The power matrix runs a grand risk of overheating very quickly and exploding in the user's hands.  Very high rolls (21-24) suffer from the gets hot rule, and the weapon's user must make a dodge roll after pitching the gun or automatically suffer a Str 10 attack with no saving throws allowed.   This will not outright kill the bearer, but it would be enough to take them out of the battle permanently.

Cuddy Sal is Approved by the Census Officiatus of the Imperium.

Q1: Can you have two plasma pistols? What would that do?
Q2: How much better are demo packs at killing vehicles? Are they like melta bombs?
Q3: Do I have any armor at all as a basic infantry?

Anyway, possible loadouts.

Demo pack 4 pts
+ twin plasma pistols/or flamer OR shotgun and frag grenades.

Or if demo packs does not work that well against big armored things

Crack grenades + Armor + Plasma pistol

Im not the GM, but it looks like detpacks are gonna rock against vehicles. Str 8 + 2d6 means a GUARANTEED glancing hit against a vehicles rear armor, even at the lowest result; anything higher is a penetrating. Against a vehicles side or even front armor it's likely a penetrating hit, too.

I don't think detpacks are meltabombs. I think they have their closest parallell to the det charges that catachan death worlders use; which strikes me that they're going to be incredibly dangerous to throw.

...Maybe Ill just... pass my detpack off onto one of you, when the time comes.

Heh. My current thougths are "Plasma pistol in one hand, detpack in other, rush in and kill stuff crazy guardsmen" kind of character.

It's just that it leaves me with 3 points that I don't really have anything nice to do with. I guess I could go with Krak grenades instead because then I could have a fancy armor as well.

I hunger.

Where are the character creation rules? Been a while since I've made a new one.

Page one, my friend.  Things to fill out are at the top of page one, classlist and armory are roughly halfway down the page.

Q1: Can you have two plasma pistols? What would that do?

Yes, you can get two plasma pistols.  As for what it would do... well... you would have two plasma pistols, and both would run the risk of Getting Hot.

Quote
Q2: How much better are demo packs at killing vehicles? Are they like melta bombs?

Yeah, demo packs are basically what S*S said they were.  They're just a very powerful shaped charge, where the entire blast is directed upwards and out, instead of wasting kinetic energy by blasting the ground.  Also, it's less a melta, more a melted.  The detonation liquifies a metallic substance that spreads out in the shaped explosion and pretty much fucks everything.*

Quote
Q3: Do I have any armor at all as a basic infantry?

Yep, basic guardsmen get a tank-top with the word "armor" written on it.

I keed.

Though not by much.

Basic infantry gets breastplate armor and a helmet, and the rest of their armor is padded.  This gives you a massive +2 to your armor saving throws.

* this is my twist on the item, and does not necessarily reflect the actual WH40K game mechanics and description.

What's the name/number of our regiment, company, and platoon?

Oh, also, from what Ive read of plasma overheating, it seems to be portrayed as the gun suddenly venting heat in a way that's strong enough to kill the user. It doesn't actually explode- if the operator survives, they can continue to use the weapon.

Are you sure you want to play it so that you actually have to pitch the weapon?

Regiment - 2nd Agrian

Yeah, this is only the second time that the guard has conscripted from the planet Agrus.

Company - To be decided by you guys.

This is because I can't think well at the moment and am being lazy about naming the company.

Platoon - also to be decided by you guys.

See above.

As for the plasma... yes.  As I said, this particular outfit isn't getting the best equipment.

We can't stop here, this is bat country

Name: Father Jeng Ursus Maximus

Age: 42

Class: Priest

Physical Description: 6'2" and muscular. Black hair and piercing blue eyes that seem lit within with fervor for the Emperor. Wears a massive bearskin cloak.

Personality: God-bothering warpriest

Background: When just a young boy on the forest planet of Gaelia, Jeng was out in the forest playing with his younger sister Rosan. They were attacked by a fearsome Gaelish Ur-Bear, and Jeng knew he and his sister were doomed. He tried to draw it's attention so his sister could run, but it was focused on her. Jeng had heard the Preacher's tales of the mighty distant God-Emperor, and so he prayed with all his heart for the Emperor to aid him. He then saw time slow down. A radiant angel appeared before him, announcing itself as St Amunia. The angel told Jeng that it was not yet his time to die, and that the Emperor still had a role for him to fill. Then she touched him on the forehead, and he felt himself suffused with vigor and cunning. The angel smiled at him, and time slowly returned to its normal speed, with the bear still advancing on Rosan. He picked up a large rock, one that he did not think he would have been able to even budge before, and he called out to the Ur-Bear. This time it turned to look towards him. It raised itself up on its hind legs, and bellowed with rage. But Jeng was not afraid, for he knew the Emperor was with him. He threw the rock with all his might, and it hit the Ur-Bear on it's nose, breaking it and driving the fragments deep into it's brain. Mad with rage and pain, it charged at Jeng, but it fell after only a few steps. The momentum of the bear caused it to skid and slide right up to Jeng's feet. Jeng went to his terrified sister, and led her in prayers of thanks to the Emperor.

When they returned to their settlement, Jeng told his parents what had happened. They in turn told the Preacher, who told the Cardinal in the capital city of Ronmar. Under the Cardinal's direction, servants of the Ecclesiarchy came to investigate these claims of a miracle. Those who lie about such things are punished most severely. But the body of the bear was there in the woods, and while it was clear what had killed it, they could find few men able to lift the rock that had felled the beast, much less throw it through the air. They checked the boy for evidence of lies or of Chaotic taint, and found neither. It was then declared a true miracle, much to the relief of his parents. The Cardinal then voxed from the capital, saying that he wished for Jeng to be sent to the Schola Ecclesiarchum to receive training in the ways of a Priest. His parents were sad to lose their son, but while Jeng missed his family he knew that he had a debt to repay to the Emperor, and it would be repaid with service. As a going away present, his parents presented him with a cloak, one that was much too big for him at the time, that was made from the hide of the beast he had slain.

Jeng continued in the service of the Ecclesiarchy, and as he grew older he grew skilled in the ways of war and combat. His charisma and fervor made him a good Priest Militant, and many were the times that he led men on the field of battle who had been separated from their officers (or, as was more often the case, had their officers die to an enemy sniper). Recently his superiors in the Ecclesiarchy have ordered him transferred from the 67th Fortias, the IG unit he'd been assigned to for five years, to a new Founding, the 2nd Agrian. It is thought that his skill and experience will bring a great deal to the fledgling unit.

Wargear: Eviscerator

Gear:

Eviscerator - The Eviscerator is a two-handed chainsword capable of inflicting horrific injuries on living creatures, slicing through walls and even damaging vehicles.  Being a two-handed weapon, it is slow, and as such the bearer always strikes last.  However, your effective Strength bonus is doubled for each attack.  The user is also granted 2D6+ strength to penetrate enemy vehicle armor.  Enemy troops struck with this weapon do not recieve an armor saving throw.  If you strike an enemy with this weapon, they are dead.  If an opponent parries successfully, the Eviscerator's attack is blocked, but the opponent's weapon is then destroyed.

Powers:
Fanaticism - the Priest, once per three hours, can use his oratory skills to whip the troops into a fanatical, faith-driven frenzy, that grants the troops +5 to all rolls for up to four combat rounds.

Name: Commissar Alexi Petrov

Age: 47

Class: Commissar

Physical Description: Alexi is a tall, powerful man dressed in the typical Commissar garb of a greatcoat and hat. His right arm, however, is completely encased in a polished, ornate gauntlet. The left half of his face is, for all intents and purposes, missing, and the entire left third of his head is horribly burned. For this reason, he almost always wears at least a half-head mask. His undamaged right eye is a dark brown, and what black hair hasn't been burned from his scalp is cropped short.

Personality: Intense and judgemental. It is Commissar Petrov's duty to ensure loyalty to the God-Emperor of Mankind, and he is not known for his forgiveness or compassion. It is not his wont to fraternize with his assigned unit.

Background: Alexi Petrov joined the Imperial Guard in the First Agrus Conscription, and quickly demonstrated himself to be a skilled, dedicated soldier. He rose within the ranks, eventually leaving Agrus IV for further training and placement in a Stormtrooper unit. He bonded well with his squadmates, and they purged many mutants and heretics side by side. However, after a particular assignment responding to reports of minor Chaotic presence on a poorly-guarded Imperium world, Alexi stumbled upon an unexpected heresy: his squadmates were planning to assassinate the renowned Commissar Holt, who was currently attached to their unit. There was clearly no time to launch a proper investigation, so Alexi acted swiftly and without mercy, taking his traitorous squadmates by surprise and executing them... except for Rem Lithia, who managed to escape after he impeded Alexi's aim by way of a hellgun blast that just grazed his head. Commissar Holt was impressed by this act of uncompromising loyalty, and subsequently put in a recommendation to the Commissariat that Alexi be given training after his recovery. Motivated by this vote of confidence and the pain of such a personal betrayal, Alexi took to the Commissar training with a fervor. Upon his full graduation, he received a distinctive power fist from Commissar Holt, which has subsequently become a trademark of sorts. Now he is returning to Agrus IV for the first time in many years, but now with the task of ensuring faith and duty among the ranks.

Wargear:

Laspistol - holstered at the left hip

Officer's Saber - sheathed at the right hip

The Fist of the God-Emperor - A mastercrafted power fist given to him by Commissar Holt in honor of his service and loyalty. Commissar Petrov unconventionally prefers to use his Fist for executions.

Awards Earned:

2 Macharian Crosses
1 Medallion Crimson
1 Honorifica Imperialis

The Macharian Cross is awarded to leaders who show brilliance in tactical and innovative thinking.  Adapting and evolving battlefield strategies based on enemy movement is no problem for these officers.  As such, squads under their control gain an additional  +1 to all WS and BS rolls.  (this does not stack for having multiples of these awards)

The Medallion Crimson is awarded to anyone in the Guard who suffer horrific injuries but do not have their faith in the Emperor shaken.  This is proof that their devotion to the emperor is complete and without question.  Anyone in line of sight to Commissar Petrov gains +1 to their initiative and their armor save bonus.

The Honorifica Imperialis is the highest honor that can be recieved by all ranks of the guard.  Those who have this award show exceptional mettle in combat.  Their presence is an inspiration to the soldiers around them.  Anyone in line of sight to the bearer of this award gain +1 to their leadership rolls.

Wargear:

Laspistol - +3 Str.  Targets gets full benefit of their armor bonus.

Officer's Sabre
- Typical officer's saber weapon.  Uses same strength profile and stats as the commissar himself.  Target gains full benefit of their armor bonus.

Fist of the God-Emperor - This weapon is inscribed with the ancient tenants of glory to the Emperor.  Mastercrafting gives you +2 to your WS to hit, and the powerfist itself doubles your strength bonus to +6 when using the weapon.  Being so powerful, it is also fairly slow, and this weapon will always strike last in close combat situations.  Targets hit by this weapon do not get an armor saving throw.  If wounded, so much physical and internal damage is done to them that they will die, even if not immediately.  If a strike with this weapon is parried by an opponent, the opponent will live, though their weapon is destroyed.

Special Rules:

Summary Execution - If the commissar witnesses a failure in leadership of a particular squad, he may execute the commanding officer and take control of the squad himself.  Knowledge that a Commissar is looking over your shoulder causes you to fight harder.  This adds +1 to leadership and initiative rolls for the entire affected squad.

Commissar Alexi Petrov is Approved by the Census Officiatus of the Imperium, and is not someone you want to fuck with.
