You are Too my Monkey

So I'm trying to get a local drunken tabletop game going and I think I've gotten together enough interest to get a few players, but in order to make it regular, I want the first game to kick ass.

I decided on WoD 2.0, because it's relatively straight-forward as far as mechanics go, and requires a lot less math to do than D&D or D20, which is very helpful considering I intend on being close to as inebriated as my players.

I've also never run a WoD game before, so I needs some practice.

Enter in you guys.

This'll be a Mystery/Horror game using the WoD 2.0 system, theoretically with low PC death, and should be a rather short game. My goal is to have it finished in 5-6 sessions, but we'll see how things progress.

I need at least 4 players and can handle up to 8.

The setting for the game is a fictional town near the Arctic National Wildlife Reserve in Alaska called "North Station." North Station is a hodgepodge town comprised of a number of different people who sort of ended up living in the same area. There's an Iron Mine, a research/preservation station for the ANWR, and the remnants of an Inuit tribe.

The town has just been witness to the first murder in its recorded history, with a few extra complications that will be detailed a bit more once things get going.

Your characters will either be denizens of the town or visitors who have a damn good reason to be somewhere that can only be reached by helicopter, 4WD, or foot.

The game will revolve around solving the murder, and then there'll be some supernatural stuff that shows up as the game progresses.

If you're familiar with WoD, feel free to get to work on making your character, though talk to me some about it before you declare it finished.

Otherwise I'll be happy to explain character creation and help anybody out who needs help.

Any takers?

It sounds like a fun setting, goo.I probably won't be able to play due to being unfamiliar with the system and horribly over scheduled, but I do request, nay, demand that someone play a dogsled musher. It's the best possible reason for living that close to ANWR (with the possible exception of field geology).

I think I only have Changeling for 1.0 Sad  but I would love to play a redcap...   yeah

Sorry dadu, normal non-powered humans only.

If I really start to dig the system I might branch out with further games later, but at the moment I'm sticking to human PCs.

I've never played WoD from that point of view.  Are there download-able rules for it anywhere?

Mortals is actually my favorite way to play. Things get much more interesting when you don't have phenomenal supernatural powers to use as a survival crutch. Also, you can enjoy sunlight, Pentex doesn't want you dead, and you don't have magic powers that cause you great pain to use. Just your wits and a gun with some guts behind it.

S*S: Yeah, baseline humans. You're no more aware of the supernatural than a real person. It's possible you've had some experience with ghosts, though nothing you'd swear by in front of an audience, and you've seen all the horror movies you care to have.

It sorta depends on how well-trained the wolf is. If you want it to be loyal to you and answer basic dog commands like "Here," "Sit," "Stay," etc. then I'll say level 1. If you want something that will serve as an attack dog and fetch things and do other things that would require a lot of extra training, it'll be a level 2. Either way you're going to have to take at least 3 dots in Animal Ken.

Jabba: Yes, though I sort of have this policy of the better prepared you are ahead of time for the game, the more you'll have to work for it, or translated, no matter how many guns you have, you won't have enough of them.

So pack him full of whatever skills you like, but I'd keep him lightly armed.

Dadu: I've got a .pdf I can send you that has the basics.

His Royal Dorkness: 2.0 is better in every way, trust me.

Only for Mortals Tongue

Well, maybe for Werewolf.

Mage and Vampire were not, imo, significantly improved. Largely because both lost good solid antagonists.

I haven't read through the Mage source-book yet. Vampires I think are better, simply because now they're less godlike than they used to be, and just strike me as being a bit more balanced over-all.

I've not read through any of the campaigns yet, so I can't vouch for the quality of antagonists.

Old Mage had the Technocracy, which fucking rocked as antagonists, and actually made you want to play them. New Mage has... something, I'm sure. It ain't the Technocracy.

Old Vampire had the Sabbat, a complete and developed antagonist. Conflict was between the Camarilla and the Sabbat, with the Anarchs occasionally mixing things up. New Vampire, there's nothing like the Sabbat, it's basically the Camarilla (Invictus), the Anarchs (Carthians), and a trio of relatively minor cults (Lancea Sanctum, Circle of the Crone, and the Ordo Dracul) with some neat tricks. Yeah, there's a bit of infighting, but there was a bit of infighting before as well, and there is no overarching serious conflict.
