Mods and Inkery
« on: June 02, 2011, 06:19:39 PM »
In looking around I noticed there wasn't an active thread for Tattoos, Body Mods, or other general self changing stuff.

Lets talk about your tats, piercings, mods, or whatever.  Share a picture of your mod if you'd care to, or just tell they story behind your ink.  Share tips and tricks for getting inked, horror stories or the wonderful.  Share questions or concerns too.

Okay so I like henna, and I've had it done a bunch of times at ren fest but I'm been considering doing a larger arm band in henna.  (Think a giant heart with the word READ cut out of it in the middle).  To this point I've done delicate tracery but not a massive body area, anything tips for large henna patches.  When I do henna, I typical use the henna cones you buy in the refrigerated section of the Indian grocery store, would it be worth it to try another method?

I burned a letter onto myself with hot metal once. Probably wasn't the greatest of ideas but at the time I had just gotten off a stint at working at McDonald's so being burned worried me a lot less than being poked with needles a billion times...

I've got 3 tats, tongue and nipple piercing. I used to have a load more piercings (including a flat-skin at the base of my throat which was awesome until it grew out) but I just got bored of them.

Both earlobes, which is pretty standard for a woman. Two cartilage piercings in my right ear, soon to be three.

I have one tattoo - the Erisian golden apple - on the back of by right hip, in that zone that's not quite butt and not quite back. Soon, it will be mirrored by a pentagon on the other side.

I would like to have a pierced lower lip, but that's unlikely to go over so well at work.

I have three more tattoos I would like: A stylized hedgehog done in blue and black in that hollow between collarbone and shoulder, left side. An upper sleeve sort of deal on the left, blue and green and grayscale circles and whorls in the patterns you'll find on standing stones in the British Isles, with a triskele A in amongst them in black. On the right, eventually, clouds and rays in sunset colors, with triskele B in black.

I wanna get a tattoo down my torso and lower neck that's kind of a cross between a more minimalist version of this lady's on the right and this. It might be partially UV ink. It looks badass in my mind, but I'm struggling to articulate my vision to paper :)

NOTHING AT AAAAALLLL.

I'm relatively unusual for a girl in that I don't even have my ears pierced. I don't have any desire to get pierced. I never have.

I'd like a tattoo, I really would! But we're saving for a house and then we're going to be thinking about a baby and so I can't think of any upcoming time where I can justify spending hundreds of dollars on art. :(

Dani', care to elaborate on your piercings and tats? Pics? :)

I've wanted to get additional ear piercings (currently just one hole in each lobe), but a friend asked me a very practical question that brought my desire to a screeching halt, "Do you sleep on your sides?" She warned that I would be "very aware" of the piercings if I sleep on my sides. I have a difficult enough time sleeping already.

Also, I've heard arguments on both sides about which is the safest way to pierce cartilage (some people prefer the type of piercing gun used for lobes, others believe this shatters the cartilage).

I have one tattoo. I'd like one more.

Guns and cartilage piercings do not mix, from experience.

I have the top of my right ear done, I got it done with a gun. I can't wear earrings in it at all, because every time I do it flares up like crazy.

Needle it. Just...needle it.

I have no tattoos or piercings yet.  Piercings I probably won't get, but I'd like a tattoo or two(hahaha, get it?) at some point.

Weebee has a Naudiz rune on her left wrist, a stylized butterfly on her neck, and an Emilie Autumn cupcake on top of her left foot.  She also recently got her lip pierced.

I've always liked the idea of getting a tattoo, but, frankly, right now I shouldn't. I don't have a firm idea of what I want, nor where on my body I'd want to place it!

I have two cartilage piercings in my left ear. They didn't hurt to get them done (with a gun) but they were crazy sore for WEEKS afterward. Couldn't sleep on that side and heaven forbid my shirt brushed against it when getting dressed in the morning. OMG pain. They got infected several times before they finally healed. I was okay to wear earrings in them comfortably after almost a year. Then I took them out and didn't put them back in for a few weeks. They didn't grow shut, but they have grown intolerant to wearing earrings for more than an hour or two again.

I got mine done when I was...17? So about five years ago. I've never been able to wear anything but pure gold in it comfortably (and I HATE gold jewellery, I just won't wear it), and even then I would still get gunk coming out of them something rotten. I daren't even try anymore.

That's why I do henna.  Its on but its not forever, so you can play with what you want.

I have right now 4 tattoos and only 2 piercings. I used to have more piercings but I found out in college I'm allergic to metal and had to have surgery because of a tongue ring that ended up poisoning my liver. Long story.

Anyway, this is a pic of 1 of 2 piercings I have left. I'll never get rid of my industrials, mostly because its how people could tell me from my identical twin sister.    (this pic is about 5 years old...) I have one in each ear.

This is a pic of the tat on my left shoulder right after it was done:

The rest of mine I will probably have pics taken at a later date, mostly because I havent seen some of them up close in a while.
