I couldn't get the balls loose on my nipple barbells the first time, but I put on a pair of latex gloves and that helped me get the loose.  Maybe worth a try?

Oh, I'll try that when I'm done being chicken about taking the piercing out. If it doesn't work there's always pliers!

Whoah whoah whoah.

You're squeamish about taking the piercing out, but nonchalant about using pliers to do so?

Nope. I was never squeamish. The pliers thing was jut a joke, but it can be a real option as well. I had a cartilage piercing that decided it didn't want to budge, and the doctor actually did take pliers and pulled the thing out. But that's a little more violent than what I was getting too. See, if you put the plies on the bottom ball to keep everything still, you should be able to twist the top ball off with your fingers. But luckily it didn't resort to that.

Well, when I had a piercing ring that was stuck even after the 3-month healing period, I asked a professional to take it out. I got the piercing at Establishment A, and months later was at Establishment B for a tattoo. I asked them while I was there if they could help me with this thing, and they did. Took a bit of saline, a pair of grippy tweezers, and some deft fingers, but it came out just fine.
