The most relevant hypothetical ever!!
« on: July 22, 2011, 05:49:37 PM »
So, as the title says, I've come up with the most relevant hypothetical question ever known to man. Read carefully and answer wisely. The future of mankind depends on it.

You are approached by a wizard. He explains to you that he is going to briefly remove you from reality so he may drop you a few years into the future - into the middle of the zombie apocalypse.

He won't be leaving you defenseless though. The exact location he is going to place you will be a well fortified, yet abandoned hotel which has running water, electricity, and enough weapons and ammunition to last you indefinitely. There is, however, no food so you will have to make regular expeditions to find some.

He also won't be sending you there alone. He tells you to choose three people to accompany you, making sure to inform you that there will be plenty of other human survivors throughout the world - so repopulating the human race will not be an imperative and shouldn't affect your decision. (Don't let that stop you though.) Because of his awesome wizard powers, these three people don't need to be currently living or even real. Dead or fictional people are an option.

Given this scenario, what is your response?

Edit:
Because I asked someone with four kids, I now have to amend the situation. The wizard who put you there has also taken all your loved ones and put them somewhere safe so you don't have to play god with the lives of your family members. Feel free to still choose loved ones, if you want to.

My choices are these:

1. Gordon Freeman (Half Life) - Come on. Is there anyone more qualified than the One Free Man. With him on scene, success is guaranteed. And with a nigh-unlimited supply of ammo, he probably won't ever kill me for mine.

2. Alyx Vance (Half Life 2) - She was my first choice but when I decided to add Gordon Freeman, I almost took her off the list. However, even if I don't have a chance with her with Gordon around, she's still a skilled zombie-slayer and nice to look at. Besides, maybe she'll eventually get tired of getting the silent treatment and give up on Gordon.

3. The Doctor (Doctor Who) - He should have been my first choice. He'll probably develop anti-zombie weapons or maybe even a zombie cure. Plus, he'll pimp the hotel out with cool gadgets and sensors and if we have access to the TARDIS, we have the food machine thingy.

1. George Washington Carver (famous purveyor of the peanut)
When it comes to doing clever things with food, nobody beats George.  I'd give him some books on modern urban agriculture and see what he does with my rooftop garden.

2. John McClane (of Die Hard fame)
Our home turf is a hotel, and I can't think of anyone who's got a better resume for beating people up in hotels.  McClane is my defense guy.

3. Fat Albert (Without the Cosby Kids.  Don't need more mouths to feed.)
In any postapocalyptic scenario, we face the issue of the degradation of family values.  Al's wisdom will help us stick to the straight-and-narrow.

Plus, if things go horribly wrong and we need to run for it, it'd be really nice to have someone slower than me.

Great answers. I definitely considered John McClane. I would never have thought of Fat Albert though. The zombies would be so busy munching on him, you could stop running and just walk away.

1. My first girlfriend, known here as NatalieD. A world without her is purposeless, I don't give two shits if she couldn't do much. Her tits would make her an excellent ambassador to other survivor enclaves anyway.

2. My buddy who's in the Air Force, who would probably cry himself to death if he didn't get the chance to tear ass through the zombocalypse. He'd be good at it, too. He has a firm understanding of tactics, survival, weaponry, and vast stores of unchanneled rage.

3. Nikola Tesla. Because he is Nikola fucking Tesla, stupid.

1. Selena (28 Days Later)
She has already survived a zombie apocalypse, one filled with fast zombies.  Nice, traditional slow zombies should be a cakewalk for her.

2. Data (Star Trek: TNG)
He's ridiculously smart, much stronger than a human (or a zombie, for that matter), and he's not even biologically alive, so it's possible the zombies would ignore him - in which case, he would be invaluable in terms of scouting and foraging.  Also he doesn't have to eat, so you get all the benefits of an extra ally without any added strain on the food supply.

3. Mach
Because I want him to survive the zombie apocalypse. :)

Speaking of Bruce Campbell.... I just got home from a live performance of Evil Dead: the Musical here in Portland.  Awesome, entertaining show!

Ashley J. Williams, Sam Axe, and Bruce Campbell.

Don't think less of me but I only just now got that.

Also, I edited the original hypothetical so now all your loved ones are already somewhere safe so no one has to feel obligated to take family with them. (See the first post.)
