You Are An Asshole
« on: July 10, 2011, 08:14:49 AM »
Sometimes, being an asshole feels good. Sometimes it's even the right thing to do. When that happens, we feel a special kind of joy. Share with us!

Recently on okc I happened upon a profile which was... incredibly sloppy. In the list of "six things you can't live without" was included, simply, "Roman."

I didn't get it.

And so, the following series of messages took place.

 :D The Hero
 >:( The Villain

:D Your profile says that you can't do without Roman. I am confused by that. Roman what?

 >:( I have no idea what you are talking about

[At some point between last and next, she removed any reference to "Roman" from her profile.]

:D The "six things I can't live without" section of your profile says you can't live without Roman.

Roman what? Roman sandals? Roman Meal? Roman Coke? Roman Showers?

 >:( Family,
Cell phone,
Water,
food,
camera,
Music

:D That's not what it said as recently as your first reply. The list had Roman in it, and I have no idea why.

 >:( it may have said Ramen at one point

 :D I thought that's what that might've meant, but I wasn't sure.

 >:( well then you miss read it cause i wouldnt have had roman on it

:D It did. I didn't glance over it once and email you immediately. I looked at your profile several times, specifically at that, to be sure that my eyes weren't playing tricks on me, because the number of other spelling errors made me think that it could MEAN "ramen," but I didn't think anyone could misspell it that badly. So I spent several minutes mulling it over, trying to think if there were any kind of activity, or literature, or band, or anything that "Roman" could possibly be that you found very important.

And now you are lying about it. In private. So, not only are you too lazy to spell check, you are so childish that you'd rather hide it than admit you made a typo.

So, wow.

 >:( there is a band and i do like that band.

actully im dyslexic so how about you piss off you scumbag k

:D I know dyslexic people, miss.

They are mature adults, so when they make a mistake, they own up to it, and correct it, without trying to hide things or make the person who spotted it feel stupid.

You may or may not be dyslexic. What I do have evidence of is that you're a massive douche.

Ta. :)

And then I blocked her!  :-^

Sometimes someone needs to man up and be an asshole, but this was not one of those times. Reason #472 why you don't have a girlfriend.

That last sentence doubles as my contribution to this topic!

Alternate contribution: Well, at least you didn't punch this one in the face!

Sounds about right to me. Covering up what would normally be a "whatever" error with an incompetent lie that insults the listener's intelligence makes you a fucking jackass. p sure I won here, you guys

If by "won", you mean "harassed a stranger for no fucking reason and told a bunch of people who already think you're an incredible douchebag about it, confirming our opinion of you as an incredible douchebag", sure.

More seriously, though, the fact that you can't understand that this is shitty behavior is the perfect example of why you just can't manage to get along with human beings. (You may be shocked to learn this, but the problem isn't everybody else, it's you.)

How dare you come to Carterhaugh, without the leave of me?"
"Well may I pull the rose," she said, "Well may I break the tree,
For Carterhaugh is my father's; I'll ask no leave of thee!"

You quoted me here as saying "to" when I actually said "too." I don't know why you'd deliberately misquote me but I definitely didn't make a mistake nor did I edit my post to fix it. >_>

for no fucking reason

100% garbletrash. I "harassed" her for behavior that is widely considered boorish and moronic, and if the first respondent to this thread hadn't been negative, the rest of you wouldn't have dogpiled.

PS: Seriously, try to be honest with yourselves about that. Suppose the first respondent had been S_C or one of our other grammar police who are more popular than me. Would you have bothered bitching then? I bet at least one of you would've joined in with "yeah, woo, high five!"

But w/e, you can all continue to bullshit at me for being on the wrong side of a known bug in social dynamics. We don't have to have fun with the original concept for this thread at all, that'd suck.

Are you saying I'm a trend setter? I always wanted to set trend!

For the record I don't think what you did was the super terrible most horrible thing ever. It was just kinda lame and not even close to the hero villain relationship you suggested. I'm sure she got over it without significant psychological damage or what ever.

If I read the first line of the thread thinking "Oh, this is going to be fun--we can all talk about the times we told off people who deserved it!"

and then by the end of the thread was thinking "man, that really sucks. He really acted inappropriately and kind of horribly there,"

does it still mean that I only feel that way because of the first response that I had not yet read?

You can assume, if you like, that we only feel like we do because of the responses you got, but the truth is that TIP is right. It's not the rest of the world, you just acted poorly. If someone like S_C had done this, I would have thought exactly the same thing--but I would have been surprised about it, coming from her. S_C doesn't get a better reaction than you on here because of random chance or because she signed up to the forums under a lucky star, she gets a better reaction than you do because she doesn't do things like this.

Pretty much this. Up til the point where you said this:

Quote
It did. I didn't glance over it once and email you immediately. I looked at your profile several times, specifically at that, to be sure that my eyes weren't playing tricks on me, because the number of other spelling errors made me think that it could MEAN "ramen," but I didn't think anyone could misspell it that badly. So, wow.

I was kind of with you. But that quote makes you look a) a little creepy (she can see, if she cares, that you've looked at her profile a bunch of times) and b) like a douchecanoe. Seriously? You're calling her out on lying about a spelling error? Maybe she went, "Oh, huh, now I feel dumb, but this guy is being kind of a dick about it so I don't fancy admitting it to him". It's not cool that you berate people like that for something so little.
Johnny is objectively better than pandalady. -K

We're distracted by the hard times, and the troubles that we make, let us throw them in the ocean, let it wash our cares away.

Pixie: If you sincerely thought that just from reading the post, then I regret to inform you that your problem is being too nice to aggressively dumb people.

How the original conversation should've gone: "I meant ramen." "Oh, okay."

How it went: "It's your fault." "Wow, you're a childish idiot."

She needs to hear that from somebody, probably more than once, or she's definitely going to continue being a lazy and stupid person her whole life. She should feel ashamed, not of the mistake, but of being enough of a shit to try and hide it and behave like I did something wrong and stupid by failing to understand her through her poor communication.

As I pointed out in the original conversation, I know dyslexic people. They don't behave this way, and that is why I don't make fun of them. They work hard to overcome their troubles so that they can be understood, and they deserve respect for that.

Peace is not so valuable that people who are being dumb shouldn't hear about it.

Rawr!, please clarify: how was I being a dick at any point before she lied about her error? I was just trying to figure out what she meant by "Roman," and when she claimed to be unaware of what I meant, I explained what I meant.

For me to be a dick before the message you quoted, it would have to be a dick move to be confused by an error.

Like Pixie, I formed my own opinion of your thread right after reading it and before catching any of the responses.  I couldn't help but think "man, he's a douchebag".  The fact that you're now trying to defend yourself doesn't help things either.  It's not really your job to educate the women of the world by harassing them about potential spelling errors, nor do women(or anybody) really look fondly on that behavior.

FYI, in German the word "Roman" refers to romance novels and bodice-rippers.  Maybe in the future you should consider multi-lingual answers before harassing people over what you assume is a spelling error.
