I'd use the incorrect restroom in a flat-out emergency. Have done, in fact. I went to the London Dungeon (tourist trap with animatronics depicting medieval torture methods) when I was 10 and it made me throw up. I couldn't make it to the women's room, but I did run into the men's room and vomit into one of the toilets. Then a nice man asked me if I was okay when I was done and helped me find my grandparents again.

I have never attempted to pee standing up. I've just never felt the need to try. I can pee perfectly well sitting or squatting, I guess I never had the inclination to explore beyond "Can I still pee? Ok, cool, can still pee."

I like foreskins and I think circumcision is a useful medical technique that should be used in the event of certain rare medical conditions. I think that routine use of circumcision on male infants who are not Jewish is a barbaric practice with no redeeming qualities and no reason to be done except for hidebound cultural inertia. I do not hate non-jewish penises that have been circumcised in infancy, nor do I hate the men who have them. I hate the practice. Make the distinction.

The London Dungeon sounds like a hideous place.  Then again, it sounds like it's not obviously for 10 year old visitors.

Even in the USA, I don't think there's any laws against using the opposite restroom (beyond a certain age).  You'll see young'uns go in with their parents, even though there's a friggin' "Family Restroom" right there.  Sure, some people may look at you funky, but it's odd that there may not be laws against such practice.

It seems to me, that most "problems" with foreskin stem from society's way of shunning that body part.  It took the USA a long time to accept circumcision, and it'll take us a long time to put it away (most countries outside the USA do it extremely rarely to newborns.)  I do find it interesting that female circumcision is illegal in the USA, but doctors are willing to do it to a male.

And if a circumcised boy is comparing with an uncircumcised boy in the locker room and says "why does yours look different?". it'll be the circ boy who feels different.  1) He's missing part of his body, and 2) He just admitted to looking at someone else's "down there".

Most problems down there can be cured with cream, or something else that doesn't involve a surgical instrument to remove a healthy area.  And, a lot of people may not realize that foreskin doesn't usually seperate until after the age of 4.

But, if someone wants to have it done to their body at a later date, I don't see why anyone should stand in their way.  They've researched it, made their decision, let them go at it.  IMO, this shouldn't be an option for anyone under a certain age, say 17 or 18.

Sorry for ranting, but I don't see why the USA is so eager to do it.

That's actually incorrect.  It varies from state to state but there are laws against it.  I think you meant "before" rather than "beyond" from the context but I'm not sure.  In any case, I don't think anyone would harass a parent bringing in their 6 year old but if you're an adult and you can't produce ID that says you're of the appropriate gender for the bathroom that you're in (and hell, sometimes even if you can) expect to be potentially harassed by fellow bathroom patrons, security guards and/or police.

That's probably not an issue for the one-time case of "But the women's was full and I had to PEE" (though I doubt the opposite is true) but if you're looking at practicing your urinal technique, you might want to invest in one for the home unless you look enough like a guy to pass.

What do you think of foreskin/circumcision?

I honestly wish I'd had some say in the matter.

I've peed standing up.  I have two older brothers, and when I was young I wanted to be like them.

I like foreskins.  There's many fun things to do with them.  But then, I just like penises.

Under what circumstances have you, or would you, use the restroom of the opposite gender?  OR.. have you ever done it "just because"?

What do you think of foreskin/circumcision?

*ouch*. (Quick, someone kick this into debate when the nearly inevitable happens...) I'm against routine male infant circumcision. 'nuff said.

As to the first. On our last trip to the American Southwest, we were staying at a camp ground a few miles from Lake Powell. It was dry, hot, and dusty. Showers were metered and expensive, and we badly needed to shower. So all the couples went to shower together, most in the female washroom, because the male one was full.

One elderly man asked us whether we were confused, but no-one else said a word. We may have blown a couple of minds right there with our Teutonic Mixed Gender Bathroom Invasion...

I've always been the girl that, upon seeing a massive line for the ladies' room, will detour to the men's just cause it's easier.

It's all the same, and you're in a stall anyway.  Yeah, you get looks, but it's better than pissing yourself, right?

Yeah, that's what I was trying to get at.  One of our local gyms has a sign outside the locker room "Only for female guests and their sons under age 6" or whatever the age is.

Although, there ARE family restrooms/changing rooms for such purposes, that i'd rather them use.  You gotta feel pretty awkward changing clothes, or in the shower, and someone of the opposite gender walks by, even if they don't know enough to realize what's going on.

Children in adult changing/locker rooms bother me regardless of sex. It's one of the reasons I have not renewed my YMCA membership. I teach LOTS of small children in the area, ages 4 and up. If one of my 4 year old students comes in the locker room with their parent while I'm not dressed, I think it becomes uncomfortable for all involved. I just don't think it's appopriate for kids to see any of their teachers in a state of undress regardless of the situation.

I've never used the men's room, though I've never been in an emergency situation where I'd need to.  Though my grade school did have a unisex bathroom next to the cafeteria.  You were required to lock the door when you went in.  The girls used to go in there all the time just to play with the urinals.

I don't really have an informed opinion on circumcision, but if I ever have a son I probably won't get him circumcised (obviously, there will be a discussion with the father on this), though I am made to understand that there are some hygene issues with this.  (Did that make sense?  I didn't think so.)

Now I have a question!  Just to ease my mind a little, is there a non-prescription way to treat and cure UTIs?  I don't have one now, but I know that sex can cause them and I'm really trying to keep my parents in the dark about that aspect of my life (not wanting the yelling and anger that would result) and repeated doctor's appointments and prescriptions would be...not very subtle.

Unsweetened cranberry juice. Has to be unsweetened, nothing but cranberry, bitter to the point that it makes your mouth hurt, and you have to drink LOTS of it. At least a litre a day. You can dilute it with water, but it's the volume of cranberry that gets into you that will make all the difference.

Cranberry is both incredibly acidic and has a particular enzyme in it that binds to the majority of bacteria likely to be causing a UTI, particularly e. coli (gotta love that!). In binding to the bacteria, it appears to sweep it out of your system. The acidity can be irritating on your stomach, however, so you may need an antacid to even things out.

If you have a UTI, keep off anything sweet as much as you can. This includes white refined foods, like white bread and white rice, and avoid yeasty things like leavened bread and alcohol. It makes a difference in the length of time it takes to heal.

edited to add: you know you've got the right kind of cranberry juice if it's appalingly expensive - at my nearby grocery store it's $10/bottle.

And you don;t need to be having sex to get an UTI either, so stop stressing.

I know that you don't have to have sex to get a UTI, but seeing as how I hadn't had once since I was six until I started having sex, I think my parents just might make the connetion.

Cedar: how long does it take to heal with the cranberry juice method?  Just out of curiosity.

Actually, that's a bit of a difficult question.  Most people seem to be asymptomatic after about 48 hours or less with cranberry, same as with an antibiotic, but that doesn't mean it has gone away. I haven't been able to find any literature on how long you should treat UTIs with cranberry, but among the advantages over antibiotics, it won't hurt to go long on this one.  Of course, I personally recommend drinking a lot more of the stuff than most of the articles I've read, based on personal experience: the more you can pee out cranberry, the faster I've found symptoms go away. I'd probably recommend at least 5 days of moderately heavy cranberry to make sure the bacteria sis gone.

Oh, if you can't tolerate that much unsweetened cranberry juice, I've read good things about the cranberry concentrate tablets. However, the advantage of the juice is it is also forcing you to drink more, helping clean out your urinary tract.

Odd note: with a UTI, avoid orange juice: it is acidic on initial contact, but the high amount of sugar in it (naturally occuring) turns it alkali in your system, which will make your UTI last longer.

Also, sometimes cranberry just *doesn't* work. If it goes on for more than 2 days I'd say go see a doctor.

If you know anyone in Europe, get them to mail you some pills called "Uro Caps". I got some in Austria and it kicked the crap out of a UTI I got while travelling. One capsule a day for 3 days, and it's herbal. It includes cranberry but also other ingredients (however, I cannot read German so I don't know the exact makeup, but I can find out if you're curious). It was much better to my body than any antibiotics ever were.

This stuff? It only seems to be available in Austria, and only with a doctor's prescription.

That's exactly it Gudy! However, I just wandered into an Apotheke and got a bottle for 30 euros, no perscription needed.

Did I cheat the Austrian medical system somehow?  :o

A question for the womenfolk. And possibly any menfolk that happen to have vaginas, whatever man Im not judging, please don't set the Intersexual Equality Commandos on my ass.

So yeah, that thing they do in porn, where a guy or a girl is going down on some chick, and they kind of suck a little bit and take a fold of the outer lips of your... "labium majora"? What the hell? Well, that's what google claims it's called... anyway, so they press their lips around a part of your outer lips, and kind of suck on it very gently, maybe they even pull back on it slightly.

I mean it LOOKS like fun. Does that actually feel good? Is it something that someone should do when they're giving a girl head? See, whenever I watch porn and they actually bother to show a man going down on the woman rather then just exclusively the other way around, they always have the guy doing this kind of thing. And yet... porn isn't exactly instructional, and all the things Ive read that are written by women for the purpose of instructing the hapless male, pretty much all of them boil down into saying "Look asshole, don't try to do anything elaborate. Your tongue can't reach that far, and the outer lips themselves arn't very sensitive. Just concentrate on the clit, the area AROUND the clit, and here are some methods of stimulating the clitoris both directly and indirectly. Anything else is a waste of your time and mine."

Also, moving your whole head from side to side, versus primarily only moving your tongue. Which is better?
