New Look

I've been working on this for a bit, and thought I'd give it a try. What do you all think of the new look? I've tested it in Chrome, Safari, and Firefox. Interner Explorer can go fuck itself if it doesn't like it.

It's not bad. Maybe just slightly over contrasty IMO, but not horrifying.  :)

I'd say dim down the main foreground colors a bit, and increase the contrast within threads between posters. I like that it changes colors from post to post, it helps me differentiate where one person finishes talking and the next starts... but it's hard to see on my screen (I use Chrome by the way).

...I realize that my suggestion will make it more like the old look, but oh well. I don't like the brightness of the white or off-white coloring.

Also, I'm not sure about the fonts. They're fun looking and will probably grow on me, but I'm a little uneasy on readability.

Other than that, awesome so far. Obviously people are going to mention the things we don't like, but we're glad to have a shiny happy functional forum, to be sure =)

Edit: Another point of contention... text inside of quotes is now larger than text outside of quotes. I liked it when they were the same size and didn't mind when quotes were smaller, but it's weird seeing an added emphasis on the part of a post that I've already read.

The blue looks super out-of-place now. Also, one of the fonts has dots in the middle of the zeros, which just looks like clutter to me.

That being said, way better than the default theme.

I agree with Narc wrt the weirdness of quotes being larger than the new text, though I like the format otherwise.

...Though, honestly, I'm getting old and I'd like it if I could set the regular text to be at least the size of the text in the quotes, if not a titch larger.

...

I will add: The word "Channel" is attempting to be on its own line below "Zeta" in the header at the top of all the pages, but I can only see the very top curve of the C as well as the top pixels on the bar of the h and the l. MacOSX FFox 7.0.1, whee.

I think I might know what you're talking about.
What does this look like...

...compared to this?

EDIT: Aha. When writing a new post, one return results in phantom line of paragraph spacing in the text box that goes away when you post. Two returns results in a three-line space, one of which goes away when you post.

None of this occurs when editing a post, as you can see by my sensible spacing.
Also, oddly enough, click-dragging to select seems to be broken for all text after the last line break of that quote when writing a new post.

Wow, it tells me how many messages I've gotten total. "Hello Narcissa. you have 897 messages, 0 are new."

However, that is grammatically incorrect. After messages should be either a period or a semicolon, preferably a semicolon, since starting a sentence with a numeral would be another no-no.

But anyway it's really cool! I feel very loevd seeing that I have 897 messages from my 5 years here (GUYS I HAVE BEEN ON THIS FORUM FOR FIVE YEARS HOLY SHIT)

I'm still having trouble on all browsers reading the text, although when someone has quoted, this looks normal.

Anyone else? or is it my eyesight? :p

Like: the new fonts, "new replies to your posts", "you have X messages, Y are new", the active thread list expanding to 20, the subtitle (although as a B5er, my brain really really wants to rewrite it as "your last, best hope for intelligent discussion").

Dislike: automagical Youtube embedding, RIP.

Curious: why have everyone's post #s changed? Did we dump all posts before a certain date from the post count/off the forum entirely?

I can no longer click on "Active Threads" to just see the ones with new posts since the last time I was here. This is very sad. 90% of the time that is how i browse the site. I don't go into the individual subforums all all to look at stuff unless I'm looking for a specific thread I to go post something new in or create a new thread.

EDIT: Nevermind, it appears I can still do this, I just have to click "Show unread posts since last visit" on the right side of the screen now instead of the heading "Active Threads" on the left.

While that is true, it's really annoying not to be able to click on Active Topics.

I know its a minor detail, but it matters to me. *shrug*

I've tried to click the "Active Threads" at least 10 times now, then cursed and moved teh mouse to the other side of the screen. Old habits, they are hard to break.

I like the new look - quite a bit. It's clean and easy on the eye - the new headers are nice too. We seem to have a return of the over-running long name problem though.
