I've been using the new colour scheme for quite a while now. I disliked it and found it jarring at first, but it's totally normal now. Smile I think it was just the change more than anything that made me go "HEY!!!"

You're surrounded by armed bastards!

I'd like to thank the alpha testers (you can see them by the Erlenmeyer flask badge they all have) for their hard work sorting out the bugs in the new skin.

Now, a quick and dirty talk about some of the new features.

Let's start with the quick reply. You'll notice the layout is improved, with far less wasted space. In addition to that, you can now add attachments to your posts directly from the quick reply, using the "Add Attachment" button. To add multiple files, click the button multiple times.

Next up, you'll note something new happens when you click "New Thread" in a given board: A Quick Thread editor pops up, which works exactly like the quick reply, only it makes a new thread. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to make it work for polls, but that will come if I ever figure it out.

Now, you'll note the new layout for individual posts; it's slightly changed, particularly in badges and IM icons. They're now the same size, which means the badges are smaller and the IM icons bigger, and they occupy two rows in the lower-right corner of each post. Also, long usernames will no longer be truncated, as they occupy a separate row in the layout.

Also, you'll find a quick search box in the upper-right corner of each page. It works exactly as you'd expect.

Fuck'em. I got what I wanted.
And here I went to all the trouble to sort out which of the prepositions mapped to what... And my previous post makes very little sense.
Aaah well, it was funny. Thanks, Kyle.

On Opera I don't have a quick reply. I have all the buttons and stuff but the white typing space is offscreen. I see it when the page loads but then it dissapears.

And for something completely opinion based. The colour schemewould  be okay if it wasn't for the gradients. They're kinda tacky and eye hurty.

Opera has broken form styling. There's no way I can make it work, so the only choice is Firefox or Safari. Sad, really, because I happen to *like* Opera.

As for the gradients, they might stay, they might go; it depends on if I can come up with something better with which to replace them.

Me, too. I'm using the old layout now.

Apparently, it's not his concern that he made a major feature inaccessible to Opera users, 'cos it's our fault that our browser doesn't support the code he wants to use in place of the code that worked for everyone. And hey, there are only a few of us Opera users, so what's the point in giving us much consideration?

Not your fault. Opera's fault. If I could fix it, I would, even if it were a load of work. It's simply impossible for any current version of Opera.

I have persimmons.

I am so not a fan of the color scheme at all.....maybe I'm emo....it's too light and froofy. It needs more contrast....right now it reminds me of a baby boy's nursery. The small boxes that segment the page into posts and online users and recent threads are all cool.I even like the gradient...I just think the space behind it needs to be much darker to give it a better pop. Perhaps closer to the shade that usernames, "link event", "reply" and pages are written in.

I though momentarily I may have the option to change the color scheme under profile settings....but I seem to be incorrect. I must have been thinking of something else?

It would however be a nifty addition to a future update.....color changeability and all. *nods*
The buttons for preview, post and spell check under quick reply seem to me to need to be closer to centered. Far right seems really awkward to me.

Everything else I think I like so far.

EDIT: GAH.....okay....the Go To Forum jump box used to by default have the forum in which that thread was in it.....so I could mildlessly go to the host forum after reading threads.....and now I have to choose a forum.....and that for some reason is driving me insane...

Or at least I THINK it was that.....something is different down there fucking with my normal navigation...... It's been a long fucking day....

Okay. Did you do it in Opera? If so, how did you make it work? I'm open to a solution.

I've tried to give it some time. I really have. But I'm afraid that I dislike the new skin quite intensely. It's hideous on my home computer, which is running Firefox and has trouble with graphics. It's merely painful on my work computer, which is running IE. In either place it gives me an instantaneous eyestrain headache.

I hope there's a way to use the old scheme.

By using the old code.

So, clearly, Quick Reply is possible in Opera.

Current theory is that it needs a graphics card. Since KoL shows up just fine, and I don't have the spare meat for a new card, I haven't bothered to fix it yet.

Karma's official bitch

I don't have any problems with the skin.  It took a bit of getting used to, but I'm getting there.  I don't seem to be having any technical issues at all.  Running like a top.  I'm using Firefox under XP.

There seems to be some talk about the quick reply box.  On the old board, I always had a quick reply box, it just didn't look quite the same.  I use it almost exclusively.  Was it not on everybody's or are the comments just based on it's redesign.

My only negative comment is the font in the stats box is fairly small.  It takes these old eyes a bit to get used to it.

I ask, then, why do you insist on using CSS to style the quick reply form when it breaks said form for an active minority?

Marpa, the issue is that the design choices Kyle made completely break the quick reply box in Opera, by way of not displaying the text field. His argument is that his code is up to standards and not many forumites use Opera, so it's not worth doing the quick reply box in a way that works in Opera.

At least, that's what I understand.

Yeah, I know. No big, far as I'm concerned.

Current theory is that it needs a graphics card. Since KoL shows up just fine, and I don't have the spare meat for a new card, I haven't bothered to fix it yet.

O....kay. So, I'm responsible somehow for your machine being broken? Or am I misinterpreting again?

I ask, then, why do you insist on using CSS to style the quick reply form when it breaks said form for an active minority?

Simple: You're free to change browsers, or to wait until Opera pulls its head out of its ass on this issue, or until I can come up with a fix myself (which I *really* want to do -- I've spent over an hour today googling for solutions). It's not my job to make sure everything I use works everywhere. It's my job to make sure that 90% of the code works in 90% of cases. That's it. Statistically speaking, Opera isn't a minority, it's the dude on the corner shouting Ron Paul slogans.

And it's not that it's not worth doing right in Opera, it's that it's not worth breaking the design in everything else to do so.
