I distinctly remember saying years ago what a problem this was, and being told I was an alarmist. And it wouldn't really be that bad.

And yes, this has passed, and has been law, and has caused a couple of my favorite sites to shut down entire and a couple more to lose half their archives because the models were from Canada or the UK and have since gone back and the site didn't have their info on record.

People: Pay more attention to the laws that are getting passed. Prevents being surprised by something like this.

The proposed changes are to include "social networking sites" into the sphere of this statute.  Which is to say, if they wanted to fuck us for N_F they could.   ...  But all they could do, really, is shut it down.

I don't see what the huge hassle is for actually keeping records on hand. Personally, I would be willing to keep track of them if it's too much work for other people. I mean, if you can't be bothered to just do something as simple as scan your ID and email it, you obviously don't care that much. It would just have to be another requirement to get into N_F in the first place- apply and have an ID. We'd just have to get them from the current members, and if they don't want to do it, then they couldn't be part of N_F. It sounds kind of mean, but I'd rather be safe than sorry.

I guess I don't see why it's such a hassle or a big deal.

It's not just a hassle. It's something some folks feel is wrong, and will therefore refuse to participate in.

If I thought I could get away with it, I'd also refuse to be searched and ID'd at the airport. People do, and sometimes they still get to fly; it's a cause they are willing to take risks for.

The most common defense of things like this (and wiretapping, and search and seizure, etc) is "if you're not doing anything wrong, why does it bother you? For most people, I think it really doesn't. When NF was pondering the issue, those unwilling to do the ID thing were in the extreme minority.

And yet for some, it is sufficiently wrong to fight over.

Buuuuuuuuuut .... this is for debate thread, really. I'd like to state here that I support Kyle in whatever decision he makes. My own nekkid butt appears elsewhere on the web (with no ID checking, BTW...)
