Slack.

Looks like a lot of people have them so I figured starting a thread for them and their games would probably work out well.

My brother has left his DS with us so Hol and I have got to use the WiFi capabilities... and they're hot.  Like seriously hot.  Some of the games are set up so you only need one cart for both people to play on.  We've been entertaining ourselves with the minigames in the New Super Mario game and with the courses in Mario Kart DS.

So what do you play?  I know there was an Animal Crossing Wild World thread around before.  Any other favorites?

Can anyone get the bloody WiFi to work online (still no luck with that here)?

Banana hammock.

My aunt got a DS lite for herself and Final Fantasy 3.  I wasted some hours avoiding the family and playing with it for a while.  Much fun.

As for me, the newest game console (of any type) that I have is a Gameboy Color, so I consider anything newer than that to be the peak of coolness.

Metroid Prime Hunters is a damn fine game.  Seriously, it's well worth it, if you were a fan of the first two.  A bit short, mind you, and the good ending is such a bitch to figure out I had to go online for it, but still a solid game.  If you go online with it, though, prepare to get a bunch of people raping you up the ass because you're an easy kill.  Seriously, no one understands how to win in a sportsman-like fashion.

Tetris DS is another one that's kick-ass.  Tetris online is amazing.  One of the few games where it's hard to be a complete prick (except for those jackasses who bail from a game when it's obvious they're about to lose).

Animal Crossing... well, just read the thread.  Great game.

Final Fantasy 3 is fantastic.  I've onlylogged in a few hours and I'm already quite hooked.

If you like Castlevania, the two for the DS (Dawn of Sorrow, Portrait of Ruin) are definitely worth picking up.  I've got 'em both.  Love 'em.

New Super Mario Brothers is great.  I just wish it was online capable.

Brain Age is well worth picking up.  It's odd playing something that makes your brain work and it actually being fun.

Nintendogs is really fucking neat, showcases fabulously what the system is capable of, utterly heartachingly cute and adorable... and gets old fast.

As for getting online... I've got the Nintendo USB WiFi adaptor.  I just download the latest software from nintendowifi.com and go from there.  Just gotta configure each game first before you can go online with it, but that takes a few seconds on the outside.  Oddly enough, the USB adaptor works fine on my computer, but not at all on my girlfriend's computer.  Weird, because it used to work perfectly on both.

I've been meaning to pick up Mario Kart DS for a while now.  I wouldn't mind some friendly competition (on that or any of the games I've got, for that matter) with people who aren't complete asswipes.

A lonely chord, without a song.

Kirby's Canvas Curse has a really neat movement system- you draw paths for Kirby, which also makes it sort of hard. But I have much love for the original pink puff of doom.
Nintendogs, Valdrin's pretty much spot on...after you play it a while, it gets sort of old. I've had mine a year, and I do still play it, so I think it's worth it.
WarioWare: Touched is not as fun as Twisted, I think, but still a really silly, entertaining buy.
Animal Crossing: Wild World, what Valdrin said. Great game.
Harvest Moon DS is a good game, and does use the touch feature once you buy the gloves. I'm a sucker for Harvest Moons, tho.
Pokemon Troize is actually harder than I thought, but a fun switching puzzle-type game.

I just got Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Blue Rescue Team, which I like so far, and Contact, which I haven't played yet. I'll post on them when I play more.

Elite Beat Agents is really really really fucking fun.

Brain Age is really cool, though it's only about 20 minutes a day of gameplay, so it isn't really a game game, just kind of a really cool toy. Though I've been playing for a week now, and it actually seems to be making a difference, so...

I agree with Valdrin about New Super Mario and Nintendogs.

I've only played about 15 minutes of Children of Mana, but I thought it was pretty fun. I was never a huge fan of the Mana series though.

Has anyone used the demo-download feature of the DS at the DS displays in shops?  How does it work?  Is it the neatest thing ever or what?

Also... I'm planning on getting one soon... is there any reason I should hold off?  Are they going to release any updated version of the DS now that the Wii's out?  One with a bigger memory or anything?

Goo and I use the demo download all over my apartment! But I hadn't thought of trying it in the store... ooooooooooh... thanks for the good idea ben... the people at the game stores are gonna haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaate you.

Right now I'm in love with elite beat agents in a super hardcore way. I thought I wouldn't overly like it.

I'm ignoring Children of Manna cos it takes WAY to long to get started... walk around and do my chores... bah... why role play chores when I can do LAUNDRY!

Oooh also anyone with Nintendogs having difficulty getting their dog to recognize their voice? We think my little game thingy is flawed... because it wont recognize mine or daniel's voice but with his card it's fine...

Though there was some amusing times as I screached "SEGA... GET YOUR ASS OVER HERE... FUCKING SEGA... NEXT TIME I'M NAMING YOU DS... BECAUSE YOU'RE FUCKING USELESS TOO"

Yeah, Ash, my girlfriend and I have had that problem.

I just stopped using the voice-recognition feature with the game, for the main reason that every time we'd use it, it would end up with our cat climbing all over us and getting in the way.  Apparently the minou doesn't like it when we talk to the DS.

Also, Sinic: I can't see them releasing yet another version of the DS just because the Wii came out.  The DS-lite is less than a year old, after all, it'd be foolish for them to release a new one right now.  I think it'll be a little while yet before we see another model get released, if it even happens.

And, once I get that new job, Elite Beat Agents will be MINE... MWA HA HA HA HA!... after I get a Wii.  Maybe.  Crap!  Stupid gaming priorities getting mixed up.

As to Tetris DS...lots of fun, if anyone here wants to play online sometime, let me know. And if one person quits before the game is over, it automatically counts as a loss for them, they lose points and you get the points and the win.

As to Wi-Fi, I turned off the WEP key at my apartment (because my Apple was having issues connecting), and I just manually entered my SSID and connected with no problems at all. Try doing a Test Connection and seeing if it finds it, or asks for the WEP key, or what.

So according to the people at EB evidently there's been some sort of hardware problem which has led to the current DS shortage.  Anyone know any more about this?

I haven't heard anything about a hardware problem. I've heard the reason behind the shortage is that Nintendo's focusing all their shipping on the Wii right now. All the DS stuff is supposed to come in during the second week of Jan.

Children of Mana is pretty fun if you can wing a couple of extra people to dungeoncrawl with, otherwise it can get fairly boring pretty easy.  There's next to no worthwhile story at all (I'm not kidding when I tell you I find the story to the significant sidequest much more involving than the main storyline), and the magic system is pretty much unnecessary, much like all the other Mana games.

Still, it's fun.

I highly, highly recommend Clubhouse Games.  It's not the normal kind of thing I'd consider for a gaming console, except it allows for up to 7 other players with downloadable content on every game, which is hardcore rad.  It's a really polished cartridge, haven't found anything to complain about at all.

Clubhouse Games is a great new collection of casual entertainment titles for the DS. Challenge up to seven friends with one game card via Multi-Card Play or DS Download Play. Can't play checkers without shouting "KING ME!" across the table? The in-game (PictoChat-like) feature takes table talk to a new level. Games include: Pig Hearts President Rummy Seven Bridge Black Jack Five Card Draw Texas Hold 'Em Nap Spades Contract Bridge Solitaire Mahjong Solitaire Escape Grid Attack Hasami Shogi Connect Five Dots and Boxes Turncoat Checkers Chinese Checkers Backgammon Chess Shogi Field Tactics Ludo Dominoes Word Balloon Soda Shake Koi-Koi Bowling Darts Billiards Balance Takeover

That's an impressive list there.  So with the mic thing they mention... is that a real-time voice chat option?  Might seem kind of silly if you're sitting across the room from each other...

We have Clubhouse, and it really is quite an incredible (and almost unknown) game. Don't know about the voice chat thing, haven't tried that.

It's a wi-fi game though so if you are playing through that and yelling at someone across the country it seems a little less silly.

Haven't heard anything about mic usage, since I've only done download-play on it.

But the chatroom option really is pretty cool.  There's a little button at the bottom of the screen you can press to switch to the chat room, and then press again to revert back to the game you're playing.  Gives you something to do if you're opponent is taking a really long time.  It's kinda rewarding to find a zombie invasion waiting for you in the chatroom after a few minutes of chess maneuvering.
